I used this plugin (ubuntu-packager=plugin) as a source ideas for the gradle-ospackage-plugin (https://github.com/nebula-plugins/gradle-ospackage-plugin), which is further based on the gradle-rpm-plugin. The ospackage uses Gradle's CopySpecs (e.g. from/info) to define the files to be copied into the package, so it feels like Gradle. It'd be great to combine any missing functionality and consolidate where this kind of work is being done. The github repo is in an org, so that anyone can be added to work on the project. The releases are specific to gradle 1.8 and gradle 1.9 and will continue to match which version it's compatible with. Releases are routinely published to bintray, https://bintray.com/nebula/gradle-plugins/gradle-ospackage-plugin.
