Just tried your code and first impression is that it works fine on Pi pico.
Not using my mh_z19C sensor for about a year I forgot the correct wiring of Tx and Rx as described here. Maybe a hint in the readme file would be helpful to prevent others from the same mistake.
Positive surprise is that my mh_z19C sensor does not require it's pullup resistors with pico witch I had to use with my Pi400 before to get it running and providing measurement data (as described here).
