opener-docker's Introduction

Docker image for the OpeNER project

What is OpeNER ?

From the OpeNER project website:

OpeNER is a language analysis toolchain helping (academic) researchers and companies make sense out of "natural language analysis"

Why a docker image ?

OpeNER needs an execution environment with a lot of requirements:

  • A mac / linux / unix kind of operating system
  • JRuby 1.7.9+
  • Python 2.6+
  • Java 1.7+
  • Perl 5+
  • libarchive development headers

Thanks to Docker, it's very easy to create such an environment, without side effects on your operating system!

How to get the docker image ?

You can clone this repo and build the image yourself:

docker build -t opener .

Or directly get it from Docker Hub

How to run OpeNER ?

For example, you can start the language-identifier-server this way :

docker run -it -p 9292:9292 opener language-identifier-server

and then access the service page at http://localhost:9292

opener-docker's Issues

Sometimes the startup of a container is really slow

I run many containers, each one related to an element of the Opener pipeline.

But each container is really slow in starting up.

Also if I run only the container for language-identifier-server , then the log that the server is ready shows up after 30 seconds or more.

I have the sensation that is an issue related to ruby inside docker container.

Do you have any insights on it? Did you note the same problem?

missing dependency lxml

When trying to use pos-tagger or tree-tagger, I get the following error(s):

RuntimeError: Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/local/bundle/gems/opener-pos-tagger-base-2.2.1/core/pos-tagger_open-nlp.py", line 36, in <module>
from lxml.etree import ElementTree as ET, Element as EL, PI
ImportError: No module named lxml.etree

and

RuntimeError: Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/local/bundle/gems/opener-tree-tagger-4.1.1/core/tt_from_kaf_to_kaf.py", line 28, in <module>
