github-profile-achievements's Introduction

GitHub Profile Achievements πŸ†

A collection listing all Achievements available on the GitHub profile.

Following the launch of the first Mars Helicopter,Β Ingenuity, GitHub announced the new Achievements section:

We are also using this opportunity to introduce a new Achievements section to the GitHub profile. Right now, Achievements include the Mars 2020 Helicopter Mission badge, theΒ Arctic Code VaultΒ badge, and a badge for sponsoring open source work viaΒ GitHub Sponsors.

This repository attempts to list them all.

2022-06-09: GitHub announced more Achievements, but without specific criteria. If you see something not listed here or is incorrect, please open an issue :)

2024-02-06: Achievements will no longer be available in GitHub's Community Discussions to counter spam, see the announcement.

Don't like the Achievements? Here is how to disable them. Direct link to the setting for your convenience.

Official list

There is was an official list available in the GitHub Docs at
https://docs.github.com/en/account-and-profile/setting-up-and-managing-your-github-profile/customizing-your-profile/personalizing-your-profile#displaying-badges-on-your-profile (link to the archived version).
There is still a section which includes specifics on how badges were/are awarded, e.g. which repositories and versions qualified for the Mars 2020 Helicopter Contributor.

Consider this repository a mirror, maybe in the future with historic purpose. Unless there will be an official list again, this is it.

github-profile-achievements's Issues

xNumber displayed in the badge

I'm coming from the Github-Community discussions where it seems people are somehow misunderstatning the xNumber displayed in the badge.

My proposal is to add in the README.md a column starting from the base tier that explains
x1 - Base tier
x2 - Bronze tier
x3 - Silver tier
x4 - Gold tier

πŸ’―

New useful information

  1. If all the conditions are met correctly, the reward is issued instantly.
  2. To obtain a Galaxy Brain, the following conditions must be met:
2.1 - Only answers in other people's questions selected by other participants are taken into account
2.2 - If there are already more than 2 of your answers to your questions, then you will not be able to receive the reward (until you cancel them)
2.3 - The brain is issued only on the condition that it will be exactly the answer No. 2, and it will meet the requirements of paragraph No. 2.1

Potential TODOs after 2022-06-09

  • Better sizing for tier badge images (desktop - mobile seems fine) done
  • Do something with the backgrounds?
  • Capture the tier-animation?
  • Capture the whole thing together including background? screenshots captured, table was too crowded, minimal version it is
    • as SVG maybe even!? nope, not good enough currently …unless πŸ€”
  • Column for the original text as well as the more precise actual way to get it yielded by our testing?

More New Achievements Have Been Updated

Discussed in #111

Originally posted by lnugraha July 13, 2022
Today (July 13, 2021) I noticed that Github has just updated their achievement badges. I have identified the following new badges and how to earn them (please CMIIW)

  1. Quickdraw: close an open issue (or pull request?) within 5 minutes; apparently one-shot like YOLO thing.

  2. Pair Extraordinaire: coauthorized commits on merged pull request

  3. Starstruck: earn at least 16 stars (from a single repository?) that you own

Galaxy Brain achievement

Discussed in #9

Does the achievement mean:
"You need to open 2 discussions that are answered"
or
"You need to become the marked answer to 2 discussions?"

Or it's another different definition?

Closed within 5 mins of Opening?

There seems to be another badge, you'll get it rewarded once you open something (could be issue or PR, I guess, need to check) and close it within 5 mins?

Not Receiving Achievements

I've noticed my account does not receive achievements. Do all the criteria need to happen in a public repository?

Grammar typo in README.md

Hello, thanks for the information about the new achievement, it's very helpful to know how to get the achievements in the new update.

I noticed a small typo in your README.md file in sentence below:

Don't like the Achievements? [Here](https://docs.github.com/account-and-profile/setting-up-and-managing-your-github-profile/managing-contribution-settings-on-your-profile/showing-your-private-contributions-and-achievements-on-your-profile#changing-the-visibility-of-achievements) is is how to disable them. [Direct link to the setting for your convenience](https://github.com/settings/profile#profile-settings-heading).

The typo is in this line

is is how to disable them

Emoji skin tones not listed

I have noticed that the color of the Starstruck and Gitty up achievements look different depending on the users preference on Emoji skin tone. I assume any achievement with a facial emoji will have this.
Here is an example I just recently saw:
quickdraw-default--light-medium
