amazon-exporter's Introduction

amazon-exporter

amazon-exporter is a ball of javascript to make it easier for me to do data entry into YNAB.

It opens the "view invoice" link for each item in the order history, scrapes some data from the HTML, and finally opens a new window with a table summarizing every order, sorted by amount.

It integrates with the YNAB API to match up amazon purchases with unapproved transactions.

Usage

  1. install docker and make
  2. (optional) create a YNAB Personal Access Token, and put in into a .env file as YNAB_TOKEN=$YOUR_TOKEN
  3. run make serve
  4. open http://localhost:8080 and follow the instructions

Project goals

  1. make my personal budgeting chores faster
  2. vanilla js, no frontend build step (using libs from CDNs is OK)
  3. easy installation

amazon-exporter's Issues

invert the windows

Instead of the bookmarklet opening our code as a child of the amazon window, try starting with our code, and have it load the amazon window as a child and control from there.

  1. our app serves some JS and HTML, which opens the amazon orders page as a child
  2. use postMessage to pass data around
  3. show orders in the table as they load in the background windows

Might lend itself to exporting this data to CSV or something a little easier.

mark rows as complete

Once I've entered the data, tag that row as complete and hide it, with an option to show the completed rows. Completed rows should have some visual indication of being complete.
