This program can be used as a workaround for some problems in WineHQ when runing a Linux command-line program with input/output redirection.

Due to a flaw in WineHQ (see bug#18335), a Windows process cannot detect whether a child Linux process is terminated.

Due to a bug in WineHQ (see https://stackoverflow.com/a/45545068/1300170), it incorrectly closes the inherited handle when its original is closed.

Usage examples:

  runio -n /bin/bash -c "echo test; sleep 1" && echo child is finished

  echo echo wating a second; sleep 1; echo finished | runio /bin/bash

How to use?

I just came across your comment about this (for some reason I never got the notification). But I can't even figure out how to install this tool. Apparently it's written in a language called ForthML? But I can't find any information about that language or how to actually compile runio. Any suggestions?

Still not showing output, nor waiting?

Hi Ruvim - thanks very much for your follow-up on StackOverflow :)

Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to be working or me. With the example commands, the bash shell still terminates immediately without showing the output. Here's a screenshot (that it never prints "test," nor "waiting a second"):

Note that I'm actually using Crossover (v20 beta) rather than WINE directly - though as it's really just a "pretty" UI to WINE, I would've expected it to behave similarly.
