focusedtask's Introduction

Focused Task

Focused Task at Product Hunt

MacOS menu bar app that helps you focus on a single task. By splitting it into smaller todos and keeping all related information about it in one place. The app is designed to get out of your way. Everything can be done via a shortcut.

It is built with Electron and uses React and Redux.

focusedtask's Issues

Keyboard shortcut for toggling lists

Could we have a shortcut which would toggle between different lists?

The global shortcut is very useful, but if I have a personal and a work list it'd be easier if I can use just the keyboard to switch between them after using the global shortcut to show the app.

Add Countdown Timer for tasks

While working on tasks I caught myself wondering when did I start .. and "isn't this task taking too much time?".
So something you probably have already though about but adding a countdown timer per task and recording how much time is spent on the task. Maybe the timer could be visible constantly to remind you not to get distracted?

If you consider this useful I am happy to collaborate :)

P.S. This is a great app which I have been using just a day and enjoy a lot! Even considered doing it by myself in the past but I'm glad you already did it!

Nesting of todos

This is a feature request to add the ability to nest todos.

  • Nested todos would allow grouping of tasks together or listing subtasks as part of a bigger task.
  • Nested todos could act as normal todos, but be visually indented to the right under its parent todo.
  • I'd recommend up to only 1 level of nesting.
  • When moving or checking parent todos, all nested todos should follow.
  • In order to create nested todos: 1) A top-level todo could have a button to add a child todo 2) An existing todo could be nested.
  • Nested todos could be dragged from one todo to another changing their parent.
  • Keyboard shortcut for nesting/denesting a todo could be useful. Usually Tab, but it's currently used to cycle focus through sections.

What do you think? Would that be a feature to be considered for the app?

heroku download link appears to be down

As title suggests the latest download link seems to be down, I am assuming this was an installable version of the app?

I've managed to get the dev build working and the functionality seems ideal. Good job!

Edit - Changed browser, the download link is working.

feature idea - current task

Hey, I've been using the app for over a year now, really is the best TODO list for me!

A feature I was thinking about adding was giving the ability to click on a specific task and label it as "current" (denoted by an icon). This current task would then display in Menu bar (top right of the screen) at all times.

I can make the feature optional via a toggle in preferences so the app would behave as it currently does until enabled.

Let me know what you think.

Sync notes/todos in Markdown files

Several desktop and some mobile software apps export/sync their notes and todos in a folder of Markdown files. I've worked on something similar as well: https://github.com/hkdobrev/notetaker

If FocusedTask could export to a Markdown file with GFM support for todos syntax, then it'd be compatible with a relatively wide range of apps and use cases.

I miss being able to access FocusedTask on my mobile. Having it write to Markdown files which I can push to GitHub and view and check on my phone would be great.

If FocusedTask could even sync the todos back from the file into the app would be great! I think this format would be much more useful than the JSON export even though it's less structured.
