The npm dependencies of this theme needs to be updated, looking for a setup similar to what adam has done here:
https://github.com/adamwathan/laravel-preset/

TLDR;

• Update tailwindcss to the latest version (v1.1.3 as of this writing)
• Update all blade files with updated tailwindcss syntax (if needed)
• Replace sass with css (add postcss-nesting and postcss-import)
• Update readme features

This repo needs to be synced with the original fork (https://github.com/roots/sage) as it's heavily outdated, last updated May 14, 2018.

One way to do this is to add the original repo as a new upstream remote, fetch and merge the commits, resolve the conflicts and make sure everything is working as expected :)
