Notes on Common Lisp
As an encouragement to you, Ric,
please go on with lispmethods!
By the way, do you know: https://leanpub.com/lovinglisp/read ?
I just recently stumbled on it. It might give you some inspiration. Because modern stuff is covered there.
There are too few - compared to the other languages - introductory stuff there.
Recently I stumbled on an I/O problem: common lisp cannot read-in xlsx files directly or write to it. There is no simple solution for that.
The packages :xlsx and :lisp-xl couldn't read my libreoffice-generated .xlsx files properly, although they were very basic ...
There are solutions with ABCL using Java stuff ...
I am trying to get into and understand :xlsx first ... (but I am very new to this stuff ... it takes me ages to write some code using cl ...)
maybe will try an own small package to address this issue ...
Just wanted to tell the overall idea to collect information and provide solutions for up-to-date and everyday problems with common lisp is really good and to be supported! :)
We have to spread lisp - the best and most underestimated computer language in the world. :)
I really believe it is... I really love this site :-)
An overview of how to quickly set up a development environment and get started with Common Lisp. Install a lisp, add some libraries, write some code!
Hi again !
so this post is really helpful, thanks (http://lispmethods.com/libraries.html).
In the end, it is too bad you don't show solutions on how to automatically fetch dependencies without manually symlinking our projects to local-projects. I am pretty sure we can C-c C-k the .asd of our project, anywhere it might be, and quickload it.
What is asdf:oos
? You don't present asdf:load-system
or make
? (https://gitlab.common-lisp.net/asdf/asdf/blob/master/doc/best_practices.md)
Indeed a slime-load-project
would be great. What about opening an issue on Slime ? :)
About Quicklisp, it may be worth saying that it is different or that it goes further than pip in ensuring that all libraries work together in so-called dists… that are built once a month. That way one wouldn't be surprised and/or frustrated by this difference. (cf https://www.reddit.com/r/Common_Lisp/comments/6x7c85/why_do_we_have_to_wait_one_month_before_quicklisp/) And there's Qlot.
keep up the writing !
Hi !
it can be really worth saying a word about Portacle IMO, the multiplatform and portable lisp environment ! (Emacs, SBCL, Quicklisp, Git, no installation needed).
cheers !
