"A low p-value makes our default action (or our null hypothesis) not likely to have happened" - common misconception. A p-value is a statement about the tail probability conditional on the null being true, the formalism says nothing about the probability of the null hypothesis. Unfortunately the way p-values get used usually that's what people want to know... hence the widespread misuse.
