5minutefork's Issues

Use zip, not git clone

It's just a suggestion, but fetching zip instead of using git clone would be way much faster, don't you think so?

support branches

i like to test a specific branch - not only the master branch

Button shown on organizations page

The "5 min fork" button is shown on the organizations page when using the userscript.

You need to be added to an organization to see the button.

Simple icon design

Ideally that an icon that looks at home with the github pull request, watch/unwatch, star and fork icons (because there's an extension that's been written and it'll look great on that button as well as favicon and on the index.html for 5minfork.com).

Requirements (that I can think of now):

  • Works in black & white (even better, is just black and white)
  • Works at ~16px (for favicon)

Chrome extension has wrong url after branch change

Because the url is constructed on load, rather than when the button is clicked, it won't reflect an updated url.

Though I could listen to the pushState event... or just make it execute JavaScript....it's late, whatevs.

Support bower

We are using 5minfork for http://slidedeck.io/ thanks it works great!

Sadly a lot of repository are using bower to install reveal.js and other script . It would be great if 5minfork was running bower after it clone the repository to make the code functional.

Support for `npm install`?

I know this gets very sketchy and so I'll accept if you just close it out... especially since it may be a bit of a rabbit hole as it will incite other "Can you support gem?", etc. kind of requests... but....

Any chance you could support npm install for repos with package.json files in the root dir? Obviously with that comes the added need to ensure your server isn't going to be borked by some jerk with a malicious NPM install script.

This will also likely lead to other requests, though... like installing grunt-cli, bower, yo (yeoman), etc. at the global level.

Support HTTPS

Not sure if this is a code issue or just the configuration of 5minutefork.com but 5minutefork.com doesn't respond to HTTPS requests. This is especially noticeable when replacing a github URL (which all starts with https) with 5minutefork.com.

Should we serve over HTTPS?

Many new web platform API require a secure origin, such as Service Workers, Fullscreen and any user-media APIs.

Here is an example error: (via http://5minfork.com/seanmtracey/LightPaint-Js )

getUserMedia() no longer works on insecure origins. To use this feature, you should consider switching your application to a secure origin, such as HTTPS. See https://goo.gl/rStTGz for more details.
core.js:164 The following error occured: [object NavigatorUserMediaError]

Should we have a wildcard certificate (from Let's Encrypt) to support such features?

Tweaks to icon

@larscwallin would you be up for making some small tweaks to your icon?

Below are two screenshots of the icon in use. It's going to sound daft (to me), but it feels like the circle is almost an oval (wider on the x axis) shape when it's this small. I think agains the other icons and favicons, it would be good to thicken the outer ring and the straight lines that make up the hands.

None the less, thank you for your time and contribution. It's always nice when I see other people coming in to help make these projects better.

Cheers,
