Cartesi, The Blockchain OS, is a layer-2 platform for the development and deployment of scalable decentralized applications. Cartesi offers a Linux operating system coupled with a blockchain infrastructure, which allows DApps to be developed in familiar programming languages like Python, c++, SQL and others without the need to write Solidity code.

Cartesi’s core technology relies on its virtual machine that emulates a RISC-V ISA, called the Cartesi Machine. This way, developers can bring their ideas to life in their favorite languages and libraries, without giving up on the solid security guarantees of the blockchain.

Me, Michal Maler of Red Hat, would like to invite Dr. Yonatan Sompolinsly, the Kaspa core contributor, to our weekly blockchain call.

Dr. Yonatan Sompolinsky is the founding scientist of DAGlabs. He received his Ph.D. from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. His research, which was mentioned in the Ethereum whitepaper, focused on the design and analysis of permissionless consensus protocols. He is the co-author of GHOST (2015), SPECTRE (2016), and PHANTOM (2018) protocols. Dr. Sompolinsky is now a Computer Science postdoc at Harvard University, researching transaction ordering incentives and dynamics. He is a founder and contributor to the Kaspa protocol, a new PoW base layer that implements his research work.

BlockDAG - a technology that can go hand-in-hand with blockchain but also acts as a new meta-technology that challenges it. By storing blocks as graphs while being protected by the power of Proof-of-Work, it seeks to overcome the shortcomings that stem from the linear nature of the traditional blockchain. Project Kaspa and their BlockDAG solve the blockchain trilemma issues when delivering high block creation and transaction verification speed while not sacrificing security and decentralization.

An Introduction to Stacks and Clarity

Description

Stacks is an L1 blockchain tethered to Bitcoin through its unique consensus mechanism, proof of transfer. Bitcoin has traditionally been seen as the OG blockchain, but a bit boring because you can't do much with it. Stacks envisions Bitcoin as a settlement layer, with Stacks serving as the compute layer on top, allowing us to separate the foundational settlement/money layer, while still having the robust functionality provided by smart contracts.

In this talk, we'll go over:

  • A code demo of Clarity, a smart contract language built with security and transparency in mind
