v-core-3's Issues

DXF panel files only in inches

Hi,

please provide the DXF files for the electronic and side panels in Millimeter and in Inches.

Not one online shop i could find here in germany accepts Inches in the DXF files.

Thank you

Back panel should be slightly smaller to have tolerance between the extrusions

The back panel width is exactly the same width as the x extrusions (54cm on the 400).
This leaves no room for error when the panel is made and there is no good reason to have it this tight.

The extrusions should be tightly pressed against each other, not against the panel.
If the panel would be 538mm, it creates fewer problems during assembly.

We discussed this on discord and Runeeh provided this photo:
too wide

The height is also best reduced by 1-2 mm.
Mistuma provided this photo of the top extrusions being pushed up by the panel:
too high

How were those website illustrations made?

Not an issue, but more of just a question. The illustrations look really great. Could you explain how they are made? I'm specifically interested in SKR_Pro_1.2_ADXL345_angled.png

lead_screw_motor_cage_back doesn't allow motor repositioning

In the previous version of the lead_screw_motor_cage_back part, the rear z-axis motor could be slid back and forth in its mount to allow for leadscrew alignment. In the latest version, the slots to allow this sliding action and the build guide indicate that the motor should be able to move; however, the material that has been added to the mount prevents this.

I am not sure if this is a problem or just a leftover from the previous iteration, please advise.

Enclosure lid hinged tie down needs a longer base

The printed hinged tie down needs 2mm more clearance between the base center hole and the inside vertical wall (at least for the 500 printer). The existing print does not provide adequate clearance and as a result the lower 3030 rail of the lid assembly must be moved outward 4mm (2 mm for front and back tie down clearance). I have attached a step and stl file which corrects the model by making the base 2mm longer than the existing design

Wrong Fan default config for Duet 3 Mini

maybe a good idea to change

M106 P1 C"Layer Fan" S0 H-1 L255
to
M106 P1 C"Layer Fan" S0 H-1

on the firmware documentation page.

The L255 option tells RRF to run the Fan with full power, even if you set it to just 1%

and

M950 F1 C"out4" Q500
should be changed to
M950 F1 C"out4" Q250

[DANGER] Grounding issues

I noticed that:

The bed seems to be NOT isolated and grounded. What happens if the heat pad is defective and the user touches the bed?

All metal parts must be grounded to an earth wire.

A printable electronics mounting solution?

Hi, sourcing laser or waterjet cut panels is annoying at the moment due to the supply chain and Covid.

So, I wrote an OpenSCAD script for making printable electronics mounts. The nice thing is that each board gets it's own mount. With this modularity, and I can rearrange the electronics later if I want to. Here are some pictures:

The green part represents the Duet3 Mini 5+ PCB and the black is the rail.

Is this reasonable? Are there more elegant designs around? Is this a worthwhile contribution?

Thanks,
-Mike

Duplicate lines in panel DXF

The DXF files for the panels seem to have some issues.

  • Almost all lines are duplicated.
  • The file has about 20 layers, but they seem empty except for one
  • Not all lines are joined well.

When I use the DXF file to get a quote, the quote is 25 euros higher compared to a cleaned-up file.

First I fixed the files by deleting all the extra stuff in Inkscape, but a good DXF can actually be exported form the 3D model on Onshape directly.
Open the linked document for the panels.
Right-click a panel and choose 'export DXF'.

I don't know if there is a good reason for the current DXFs to be like they are. But it would be easy to export the panels from Onshape and commit them to the repo instead of the current files.

Unable to open files in fusion 360

Hi, I am unable to ope the dxf files in fusion - there is some reported error with the mesurement. Does anyone have any solution?

[FR] Change orientation of front Z-rails

The position of the front Z-rails makes it easy to accidentally touch the rails. This rubs the oil or grase from the rail, causing dry spots where the rail will eventually corrode.

Suggested solution: Re-orient the rails 90° to the rear face of the vertical extrusion. The rails are now out of the way while operating the printer. The grease or oil won't stain hands or clothes, and the rails won't be accidentally rubbed dry, and the surfaces stay protected.

Changed to printed parts

When you are changing a printed part could you consider either adding in a version number or better still indicating if the change is critical enough to require a reprint. I, like I would assume others have been printing parts waiting for the machine kit to arrive and making it clear if parts were wrong enough to require a reprint would be helpful

More stringent differentiating between enc1.0 and enc2.0 panel parts (bottom panel)

Moving to Enclosure 2.0 as the now default option for V-Core 3.1 enclosure builds, the github repo containing panel CAD data was updated accordingly.

Unfortunately, the old Enclosure 1.0 version of the base panel got overridden by the new 3.1 base panel. It would be great if you could stick to the panel_enc2_xxx_size.step naming scheme for the base panel, too. Currently it is named panel_base_size_3.1.step which is kind of misleading.

This would reduce confusion and show users directly, that they need to check the revision history for the corresponding enc1.0 file.

No 2.85mm/3mm filament filament guide available

Hi

I am one of the few who will be using 2.85mm filament on my vcore 3. So I developed a filament guide based off the existing enc_3030_spool_holder_guide which was designed for 1.75mm.

I have no idea how to get it into the contrib file section so I figured I would upload it here and if someone cares to put it in to help others that would be great. If not just close this issue and ignore it.

Default orientation of 3.1 XY joiners is wrong

With the release of 3.1, one of the pages mentions that all .STL files should be oriented correctly by default. However, that does not appear to be the case for the XY joiner pieces, which are now shown standing tall. It's an awkward piece, so it's tough to tell what the best orientation should actually be. But I seem to remember in the previous version of the docs, and now also shown on the purchase page, that it should be flat with the embossed letters facing up:

https://www.ratrig.com/3d-printing-cnc/v-core-3-printed-parts-bundle-petg-1409.html

I just tried it in the default orientation and it's not a disaster but it's not great. Should probably still be updating (assuming I am correct).

Can't find Bracket board

Divided into three, it is difficult to buy domestic, I want to use the print to play up with, and aluminum plate processing diagram (specific which distance to open the hole), I hope you can upload the DXF file, thank you!

motor_support_l and motor_support_r wrong hole dimension

Today while assembling my V-Core 3 I noticed that the CAD for the motor_support_l and motor_support_r parts have a small issue.

chrome_ys5o4MA0K6

In the CAD the bigger diameter for the head of the screw shows 9.9mm for the M6 screw and 8.5mm for the M5 screw.
A DIN912 M6 screw has a diameter head of 10mm and 8.5mm for the M5 screw head.

So the bigger hole should be at least 10.2mm and 8.7mm diameter for the other for 0.2mm tolerance. (Maybe 10.3 and 8.8mm if 0.3mm tolerance was used.)

The lower hole for the thread is fine.

Im not comfortable in my CAD skills to make a pull request of my own changes, so I just post this issue here.
