The date filter comes from dcc.DatePickerRange which is based on react-date: https://github.com/plotly/dash-core-components/blob/1.0-release/dash_core_components/DatePickerRange.py

Currently the calendar will always open below the input, which may not be ideal in the final layout

• Show only data relevant to dates selected
• Show only markers for selected MA/communities
• Change view to centroid of markers (if it's too complicated don't worry about it)

Instead of using dcc dropdown, consider using combination of a button that shows e.g. "Multiple", "24 selected" and on click will open (set visible) a dcc Checkbox div. This will have the input (the button) be compact while still making it easy to access all the options. Currently, experimenting with fixing the height/min-height/max-height css properties does not make dcc dropdown much better.

But focus on adding other functionalities first (plot etc)

In doing so, see how speeds compare

Community info boxes, the plot container, maybe the loading animation too. But definitely the info boxes ! The current one is an eyesore.

It's not pretty and clunky to use. Make your own that doesn't use react-dates. This could also resolve #2
