I ran into an issue with the Staged Blueprints mod and inserter drop lanes: GlassBricks/StagedBlueprintPlanning#41

There's details and a workaround in that issue, but it sounds like the ideal fix would involve K2 raising an event when changing the inserter drop_position.

It is possible to use the copy paste feature (shift + right click then shift + left click) to turn any inserter into a long inserter. Copying a normal inserter into a long inserter also makes the long inserter work as a normal inserter.

Reproduction

Build long inserter and any normal inserter.
Copy (shift + right click) long inserter and paste to normal inserter (shift + left click).
Normal inserter now works as long inserter.

I'm not sure if there is a specific reason to not do this? If there isn't then I feel like it would be good to support the latest stable version of the game.

Copy/pasting inserters with different orientation leads to unexpected behavior.

Reproduction

Problem 1:
Build inserters facing each other.
Change one of the inserters drop near.
Copy the drop near inserter to the other one.
The other one will show the drop near message, but won't change the drop lane. It will also not be possible to change using the shortcut or the GUI. Also, the inserter base graphics will be flipped.

Problem 2:
Build one inserter facing north and another facing west.
Change one of the inserters to drop near.
Copy the drop near inserter to the other one.
The other inserter will show the drop near message, but will not change the drop lane and will also be stuck in drop far mode. On top of that, the inserter arrow will be tilted to the side.

When you try to change the lane an inserter is dropping to when dropping to an underground belt facing the inserter nothing happens.
