conferences's Introduction

Python Conferences

Here is a list of Python Conferences around the world. The goal is to make it easier for speakers, instructors, sponsors to find your conference.

  • If you would like to add a conference or tool, please submit a pull request.
  • If you are a conference organizer, we can give you direct access to the repository, but it is your responsibility to update your own event! Open an issue to add yourself to the repository.

This repository does not power www.pycon.org; to add an event to www.pycon.org, see its official repository. See also https://github.com/python-organizers/resources.

File Format

Each CSV file is compatible with Google Calendar and has additional optional fields.

Field Description Format Notes

Tests & Linting

There are tests to ensure that the files are written in the correct format

pip install -r linters/requirements.txt
python linters/format.py

conferences's Issues

RFC: Remove country name from Location field

I'd like two remove the country name from the Location field. This field is both redundant with the more-sepcific Country field and inconsistently used (e.g. sometimes not used, sometimes with spelling variations like "USA" vs. "United States of America". I'm opening this issue first to:

  1. get feedback in case there are cases where the country information cannot be expressed with the three-letter country code
  2. identify any tooling that uses this repository that would not handle this change gracefully or would need additional updates in order to do so
  3. see if this would actually be a net-negative change, e.g. because ISO 3166-1 alpha-3 country codes are machine-readable but are not necessarily obvious to people reading the CSV files directly

RFC: Add Financial Aid URL Field

Many Python conferences offer financial aid ranging from free or discounted tickets to direct monetary assistance for travel and lodging costs. I'd like to add links to those program details here to draw more attention to their availability, and I'm interested to hear others' opinions before going in to backfill all the data.

Add code of conduct information to CSV

The current list does not include code of conduct information. Codes of Conduct are a sign that the conference takes the safety of attendees seriously, and are an expected part of Python conferences. The PSF does not offer grants to events that do not have a functional code of conduct.

It is also problematic to promote conferences whose enforcement processes are deficient.

This list should:

  • require a link to the CoC for the current conference to the CoC
  • remove conferences that do not have public CoC information
  • provide an avenue to confidentially report conferences who do not take their CoC and enforcement seriously, so that they can be removed from the list without revealing the reporter's identity

Export the conference dates to google calendar / some static website

While chatting with the @davidfischer and Anthony at PyCascades sprint, it was brought up that it will be real nice if the conference dates are all exported to google calendar periodically for easy viewing. Or if there is a nice website with all the events.
Better than reading a csv.
I think this is relatively simple to do.
Just needing someone who has time to work on it :)

Separating Location field

I'm working on a project to automate listing the upcoming Python-related conferences and I'd like to use this repo as a source of data. On thing I'd like to be able to do is filter / separate conferences by region or country. With the current "Location" field it's a little hard to do. Would you be open to separating the field into "City", "Region", "Country" (maybe with "Venue" as well?) or adding those as new fields?

Thanks for maintaining this!
