Compiling ARK ( For Developers )

Build script will allow you to use the correct SDK that ARK was built with.
  • Docker container: docker pull docker.io/krazynez/ark-4:latest

These are utilized either with cloning the repo or using the Docker container

  • Release: ./build.sh
  • Debug: ./build.sh --debug
  • Manually: install the oldest possible SDK (ideally the one used to compile M33), then run make

Use -h or --help to show all available flags

Installation On PSP

The instructions are as follows:
  • Move or copy ARK_01234 folder into /PSP/SAVEDATA/ folder.
  • Move or copy ARK_Loader folder into /PSP/GAME/ folder.
  • Launch ARK Loader. It will install ARK modules on PSP Flash and boot the CFW.
  • At this point ARK will work as a Live CFW, meaning that ARK Loader will need to be run every time the console is turned off or rebooted.
  • To convert ARK into a Permanent CFW you can use either cIPL or Infinity, along with the Full Installer for a complete permanent experience.
Permanent CFW via cIPL
  • New cIPL: works with every retail model (1K, 2K, 3K, Go and Street) on firmware 6.61.
  • Classic cIPL: works with 1g and early 2g on firmware 6.60 or 6.61 as well as Testkits on 6.60 Testing Tool.
  • DevTool cKBOOTI: works with DTP-T1000 (devkits) on 6.60 Development Tool.
  • Installer will choose the correct version according to your model.
  • Move or copy ARK_cIPL folder to /PSP/GAME/ and run the program.
  • Press the corresponding button in the installation page to install or remove the cIPL patch.
  • Warning: unlike classic cIPL, the new cIPL method can't be easily uninstalled. To revert to offical IPL, use ChronoSwitch to reinstall 6.61 OFW.
Full Flash Installation
  • This allows you to install and use all of ARK's features on the console's internal flash memory, allowing you to entirely remove the ARK_01234 savedata folder or memory stick.
  • Copy ARK_Full_Installer to /PSP/GAME/ and run it from ARK. It will install some extra files into the console's flash.
  • If the Custom Launcher is not available (i.e. you delete the ARK savedata or remove the memory card), PRO Shell will take its place.
  • When no savedata folder is available the default ARK path used to store settings will be ms0:/SEPLUGINS/.
  • Even if files are stored in the console's flash memory, the ones in the savedata folder will still take priority in loading.
Time Machine and Despertar del Cementerio
  • Time Machine allows the ability to boot the 6.61 firmware and ARK entirely from the Memory Stick.
  • Despertar del Cementerio allows the ability to revive a bricked PSP when used in combination with a Pandora or Baryon Sweeper.
  • To install DC-ARK you must first format the memory stick leaving enough space for the boot sector. You can use PSP Tool to do this.
  • You can install DC-ARK either using a PSP or a PC (Windows, Mac and Linux).
  • On PSP you need to be running a CFW to install DC-ARK (ARK itself or any other).
  • Copy the ARK_DC folder to the /PSP/GAME/ folder and run the installer from the XMB.
  • Follow the instructions to install DC-ARK and create a magic memory stick.
  • On PC, you need Python 3 and run MagicMemoryCreator with admin/root priviledges.
  • On compatible models, you can use Advanced VSH Menu to create a Pandora Battery.
  • Use a Pandora or Baryon Sweeper in combination with your newly created Magic Memory Stick to boot up Despertar del Cementerio.
  • From here you can either boot ARK from memory stick, install 6.61 Firmware with ARK on the Nand or install 6.61 Official Firmware

Installation On PS Vita

Standalone (Official PSPEmu)
  • Works on Firmware 3.60 up to 3.74, requires Henkaku/h-encore or any native hack.
  • Download and install NoPspEmuDrm (you can use AutoPlugin).
  • Copy FasterARK.vpk from PSVita/ folder anywhere on your vita and install using VitaShell.
  • Open FasterARK and wait for the install process to finish.
  • Both ARK and ARK-X bubbles will appear in Live Area.
  • Use the ARK bubble for PSP games and homebrew. It can play PS1 but with limitations related to sound playback.
  • Use the ARK-X bubble for PS1 games without any sound limitations.
  • Once ARK bubbles are installed, you can delete FasterARK.
  • To exit from a game or homebrew back to the custom launcher, press L+R+Down+Start (on ARK-X use L2+R2+Down+Start or L1+R1+Start+Down for VitaTV).
  • NOTE: Some features are not available in standalone installations, mainly the official Sony XMB and Force Extra RAM setting (needed for PRO Online).
  • NOTE: If you want to have an ARK bubble that works on Official Firmware you must use ChovySign with a valid license. Instructions in Wiki.
Adrenaline (Patched PSPEmu)

Updating ARK

There are three ways to update ARK:
  • Option 1: Use the System Update feature in the XMB. Requires your PSP/Vita to be connected to the internet.
  • Option 2: Copy the UPDATE folder to /PSP/GAME/ and run it.
  • Option 3: Copy ARK_01234 folder and (on PSP) run ARK Loader again to install new flash0 files.

Warnings

  • ARK comes with no warranty whatsoever. It was designed to be noob-proof, however it is possible for the universe to create an even greater noob capable of using ARK to destroy the Earth (or his PSP). I cannot be held responsible for this.

  • ARK may cause ejectile malfunction if your hard drive is not hard enough.

  • If this software malfunctions, you can turn it off and on again.

Sleep Mode crashes on resume with compressed ISO on PSP

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Play any game in compressed format.
  2. Enter sleep mode.

  4. The game eventually crashes.

  4. Game id detected by CWCheat seems wrong (probably associated to CWCheat itself instead of psp game)

Add an option to go directly to the filebrowser when Ark-Launcher loads.

Why?
If you have a large microSD Card + many ISOs on the card, categorizing in folders is a great way to handle the iso amount. Typically the large sd card takes some time to init load - and takes ages within the default CFW PSP XMB.
Ark-Launcher with the Ark Firmware fixes that, since it loads instantly and does not load - i goes - MetaData and does not try to init the 512GB MicroSD (which also takes around 25 seconds).
I have my Games categorized in folders like so: iso\action, iso\sports .. etc.
Ark-Launcher does not show the games on the mainscreen since they are in the folders, which is ok (if we could have folders here it would be great of course) - i go to the filebrowser on the top and launch the isos directly - also with almost no directory-content loading time - which works greate.
An option to go directly to the filebrowser on startup would be great!

nothing happens

Hi, I inserted the folders as said on the redme here, one folder at savegame, and other in game folders, when I try to load the launcher, a black screen with some things writen and after that it go back to the XMB, I inserted the infinity folder in game folder, and it appears as corrputed, What I missed?

I`m using a PSP 3000 and already have Infinity installed

Question

Hi, I have a PSP-1000 and an early model PSP-2000 (compatible with cIPL). I was wondering if it was possible to have a cIPL version of ARK for coldboot, rather than using Infinity? From what I've read, it's better to use cIPL if your PSP model is compatible (I'm not sure why - maybe faster boots, or better recoverability?). Thanks!

PSP Go Pause game & VSH plugins does not work correctly.

It seems that all VSH plugins gets disabled when using Pause Game (PSP GO)
But the VSH menu still works.
A soft reboot enables the VSH plugins again.
This is especially a problem if you use Category_lite to put games and apps in folders.
Because the games do not show up until you soft reboot.

I like the Pause game function on the PSP Go.
It makes it possible to use a "save state" for PS1 games, which is not possible any other way.
And it makes it quick to resume a PS1 or a PSP Game (skipping intro etc.)

Infinity does not load - some PSP 3000

Seems like TA-90V2 is the only one working.

Pacman World 3, Sleep crashes the PSP if Brightness plugin is enabled.

Pacman World 3, when entering sleep mode, close PSP Go or quick flip power switch on PSP 3000.
Green light flashing a lot and then the PSP shuts down.
Tested with ARK-4.14.5 and a PSP 3000 and a PSP GO.
(Other games enter sleep mode fine, at least the ones I have tested so far)

Request: Add FTP Server option in Recovery menu and disable Sony startup animation / Gameboot.

The FTP server in the recovery menu would be a good addition to File Manager, which is also available in recovery.

And the option to disable Sony startup and Gameboot Logo is self-explanatory ¯_(ツ)_/¯.

D-pad down key drift in every homebrew on the PSP after installing ARK

Every homebrew (like RetroArch, EmuMaster and gpSP) on the PSP has d-pad down key drift after installing ARK. I didn't even install Infinity but I also have this problem with it installed.

EDIT: Weird, after all it doesn't have to do with ARK since I also have it with PRO-C.

EDIT 2: Now I'm not having the drift problem after pressing hard the D-pad down key. Weird.

[Feature Request] Ark Menu exit to VSH, Games exit to Ark Menu

Possibility to exit to VSH from within arkmenu - but exit games to arkmenu.
The recovery option "Autoboot Launcher" does not work as expected.

Exception Caught still occurring on new update

I recently realised why my PSP had stopped working after installing ARK, and it was because I installed it incorrectly. Instead of installing from the PRO updater as instructed, I used the ARK updater directly, not realising this would brick my PSP. On the newest update, this is the screen I get opening most apps/going into recovery from the VSH menu:image
Is there a way to solve this without using an unbricking service/expensive unbrick method? Or do I just need to accept that it's the only fix?

Cant install PSP Go 6.20 LME-2.3

Tried installing as per the instructions but got an error (-1) when the kernel privileges in the installer were getting escalated Idk if it supports 6.20 but I prefer 6.20 on the Go since it doesn't break the Resume feature am I missing something though kind of want to give this a try is nice to see development work for the PSP still.

Exception Caught/Blue screen

since installing ark-4 over pro (6.60) i cant open any kind of application, including umds and homebrew, still not working after resetting to default settings and since i cant open anything i cant go back to pro. any way i could fix? and is this a known issue?

Defining DEBUG with make is and issue, so the debug releases are not properly debug releases. If I do make CFLAGS=-DDEBUG=1 I get a ton of errors populating. As this is and issue, I am going to temporarily disable the DEBUG release builds as they are not truly DEBUG releases, just normal releases.

C1-2858-3 error when running ARK on the PS Vita and PS TV

I installed ARK in the PS Vita and it's crashing often when running PSP games with the C1-2858-3 error.

Also, after running ARK in the PS TV, most of the times in the initial startup black screen with white letters being written, an error shows up, and if I don't do nothing, ARK crashes with the C1-2858-3 error. When I don't have this issue, most of the time it crashes with the C1-2858-3 error when running PSP games just like the PS Vita.

After updating my PSP 3000 from 6.61 Pro to 6.61 ARK4 I noticed that there is no way to mount UMD Video ISOs in the VSH Menu.
I tried to solve it by using an alternative VSH Menu but I couldn't get the Ultimate VSH Menu Revised to show up so I'm stuck with the ARK4 VSH Menu which is missing this feature.

It would be great if you could add this feature or at least a possibility to use an alternative VSH Menu.

[Feature Request] Option to force Inferno driver for PSN (EBOOT.PBP) games

This is something I've been interested in for the longest while, essentially the inverse of what the Galaxy controller did, and as I finally switched to ARK today I figured I might as well inquire about it. Perhaps utilizing Inferno over Sony's NP9660 driver could have some small performance benefits?

That's precisely what I did. Also, I deleted the ARK_01234 folder created by FastARK and sent the downloaded and afterwards extracted ARK_01234 folder to the PS Vita and PS TV after switching its K.BIN file from the downloaded and extracted VitaBubble folder one.

Also, speaking of reading the installation instructions again, if it wasn't for me, one wouldn't even know he/she had to install Ape Quest or LocoRoco Midnight Carnival in the first place for this to work and the instructions aren't still clear because it isn't told if one may delete ArkFast after using it, if he/she has to run ARK-4 before replacing the ARK_01234 folders and with the K.BIN file, what do you mean by replacing ARK_10234 folder, i. e, if one should delete the ARK_01234 folder created by ArkFast and transfer the downloaded and exrracted ARK_01234 folder or if one should transfer the downloaded and extracted ARK_01234 folder to ux0:pspemu/PSP/SAVEDATA/ after replacing its K.BIN file and replace the files when asked, what does he/she have to do with Ape Quest or LocoRoco Midnight Carnival and when can he/she finally run ARK-4.

Freeze and crash without savedata

  1. Run "ARK Loader" without copying savedata
  2. Get a crash after freeze on "Executing ARK Stage 2"

Just add a check for savedata files.
