Perhaps it would be nice if the server itself provided an RSS/ATOM feed.

API could be the same as for regular JSON output but with &format=rss or something like that.

This would allow to get activity stream for a whole country or a region - might be an interesting feature.

API could be something like this:

/activities?bbox=...

Need a way to fill activity streams with activities based on existing data so everyone has something in their stream at the beginning.

This is a big one... it has to be possible to localize activity stream content. But what component should be responsible? Activity server? Activity publishers? Activity consumers?

E.g. on osm.org user page, the user should see their own activity stream which includes:

• their own activity
• activity of their friends
• activity from areas which the user is interested in (home location, OWL?)

There are security considerations - activity server needs to authenticate the user before serving their personalized activity stream. This needs to be addressed in this feature because of privacy concerns.
