nearfutureaeronautics's Introduction

Near Future Aeronautics

A mod pack for Kerbal Space Program, part of the Near Future suite of mods.

Features

This mod features a number of new parts for spaceplanes and aircraft.

  • Large Multimode Engines: Big (2.5m), powerful RAPIER-like engines for your wildest spaceplane needs.
  • Large Jet Engines: Hefty 2.5m engines - turbofans and turbojets for big aircraft.
  • Advanced Propeller Engines: Super-efficient low speed propfans and turboprops.
  • Lift Fans: Designed specifically for efficient VTOL and available in many sizes, these engines can run on LiquidFuel and air, or be * driven electrically for flight in oxygenless atmospheres.
  • Nuclear Jet Engines: Massive, rewarding engines that let you fly almost forever!
  • Large Nacelles and Intakes: Of course, 2.5m nacelles, engine pods, precoolers and advanced intakes to help out.

Dependencies

Required

These components are required for the mod to function and are bundled as part of any download:

Installation

To install, place the GameData folder inside your Kerbal Space Program folder. If asked to overwrite files, please do so.

NOTE: Do NOT rename or move folders within the GameData folder - this mod uses absolute paths to assets and will break if this happens.

External Mod Compatibility

This mod includes compatibility patches for the following mods:

  • KSP-AVC: Provides version checking
  • Community Tech Tree: Provides an expanded, community-sourced technology tree for modders to use

Contributing

I certainly accept pull requests. Please target all such things to the dev branch though!

nearfutureaeronautics's Issues

NFA medium lift fan not clickable in editor

The medium sized lift fan in Near Future Aeronautics seems to be broken, it can't be clicked in the editor after placing it so I can't tweak the settings and can't even remove the part without Ctrl-Z'ing. This is on a vanilla KSP 1.10.1 installation with only NFA and no other mods. The large and small sized fans work as expected.

Demo GIF of me furiously clicking my mouse on the fan and nothing's happening: https://gfycat.com/concreteshamefulgoldeneye

Log file (the part where I place the fan and try to click it is at the end of the log just before I Alt-F4): KSP.log

EZ fix on Line 446 of nfa-liftfane-10-1.cfg

Line 446 in the file
"/NearFutureAeronautics/Parts/Engine/LiftFans/nfa-liftfane-10-1.cfg"
Has an extra "}" that needs to be deleted, because everything that occurs after that line is not appearing in the game properly.
By just deleting it, it fixes all the problems related to things that occur below line 446.

EZ fix

missing a file

VTOLControls.cfg is missing. It shoud be under: GameData\WildBlueIndustries\001KerbalActuators\Plugins/PluginData/KerbalActuators/
but it is not. Could you please upload a update with the cfg file to prevent errors. It may be causing crashes in KSP

Model rebuild

I saw on the KSP forums that you lost the source files for the models for this project. I've done some work reverse-engineering .mu files (most notably, getting Porkjet's engine revamp working again some time ago) and thought I might give this project a go. But I don't know what your process is for creating parts models, and a quick check of a couple repos didn't give any clues. If I managed to get everything rebuilt in Blender, would you be interested in getting this project going again?

Name clash on CKAN

It looks like you have released this mod on CKAN but pointing to another mod of yours.
If I install Near Future Areonautics I get Cryo Engines installed instead.

Engine sound revamp

Investigate and upgrade the sound effects for the various engines.

Pay particular mind to the VTOLs which lack sound at all.
