I don't know if it's an issue or a missing feature but i get differences between MP3 files and the others like m4a or ogg.

First : metadata parsing works well only with mp3 files like title, embedded picture etc.
And second : bitrate and frequency rate are shown only with mp3 files.

Is there a way to display these informations with files other than mp3s ?

We have an existing podcast however the admin tools we used to upload episodes no longer works. I want to use Podcast Generator to manage our podcast moving forward but am not sure how to do this. I installed the program on our website and went thru the setup, but that only seems to pertain to creating a new podcast. I need Feed Generator to access an RSS feed that already exists, then be able to add new episodes. What should I do?

I use Podcast Generator to manage our church's preaches, of which there's one every Sunday.

Sometimes I don't get round to uploading it until early in the week, but it's helpful to set the date as that of the previous Sunday.

If I do this using the "Publication Date" option it never saves it - I always have to upload with today's date, then go to All Episodes, Edit, and then change the date to backdate it.

Would it be possible to allow the Publication Date field to work in the past, too?

Is it possible to use Podcast Generator for video podcasts? I haven’t attempted it yet, nor got any content but wondered if it could handle video?

It may be because I am totally bleary-eyed right now, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to FTP the podcast episode. It's an hour long and roughly 20MB, and since my hosting company limits uploads to 2MB, I have to FTP. Yes, I know it's a totally newbie question, but I'm giving in and posting :) Thanks for any help.

I seem unable to add an image to a podcast. Is it the intended behaviour to only have it via id3tag?

Also, in my use case I would like the categories to have its own description and image. It could be great for itunes. That way the user could use the different categories as full standalone feeds. Would you accept a pull request for that?

We could give HTML5 video player support for mp4 files

I used the ftp indexing feature and it indicated that it had found a new episode but that episode does not appear in the list when I go to edit it.

Any help in diagnosing what is going on would be appreciated. We have been using podcast generator for years with little to no issues. The files mentioned in the error are in their rightful place, can't figure out why this happened all of a sudden.

Hello,
We're having issues when using special characters that break the XML feed. We're on the the latest 2.6 version. I was looking through the core functions code and noticed there IS a renamefilestrict, remove_accents, and renamefile which I would think should resolve the issues we're having. However it is not working. Is this something that has to be enabled with a setting somewhere so that the strict filenames are enforced?

I’m using the Italian language version of Podcast Generator and, every time I try to click on the “Publish your podcast on the iTunes Store” command, in the “Administration” section, iTunes does open, but then an error message appears (sorry, the text is in Italian):

I managed to add manually the podcast on iTunes the same but, since I would like that Podcast Generator could manage my podcast iTune link, my question remains: what’s the matter with this error?

According to http://www.itunes.com/dtds/podcast-1.0.dtd it is possible to specify an image for each item (episode) using the tag itunes:image.

I think that it would be a great enhancement if an image can be set, not only for the podcast as a whole, per episode.

I created own theme based on flatly - it looks nice but I'd like to customize episodes' look. I found out I can use functions.php in $(theme) directory (according to core/themes.php) but I don't know how to use it. Doc is silent about it.

Let's say I want to override

function showPodcastEpisodes($all,$category)

to customize episode's look. How should I proceed with $(theme)/functions.php to accomplish this goal?

Can this be done somewhat painlessly ??? I have a huge Podhawk driven Podcast site and Podhawk is no longer in existence. Any ideas would be appreciated

even in 2.5, the themes don't seem to work correctly with regards to my iTunes button.

I run https://sysadministrivia.com. The iTunes button keeps generating as https://sysadministrivia.com/feed.xml (it won't appear to- I've switched back to my custom theme, where it's hardcoded in)

Please make a configuration option to allow to override the URI for this button, as I'd like it to point to our entry in the iTunes store- what's the point if it just points to the same URI as the "RSS Feed" button?

The last real update I've seen is from 2 years ago, and a bunch of forks.
I also saw that it's still using md5 hashes for password encryption.
Regardless of keeping the requirements low, can we modernise this and bring it up to the latest best practice and merge the latest bug fixes in to the main branch?
I'm purely making suggestions and asking questions.

I noticed that we can put a future date and so schedule the episode to be released at a future date, and that’s OK.

However, another thing I noticed is that, if I predate an episode, it is published in the current day and hour and I have to change it manually only in a second moment.

Is there any means to avoid that?

I have a similar situation where I'm using a home server (Synology DS210, Linux and PHP 5.5.33). I chmod 777 the mp3 and xml files, but I am still not able to change the episode date using PG. Am I missing something?

More info: After selecting edit, I deleted the xml file (thinking this might help with setting the date), selected the date and time, and clicked "Update Episode." The xml file was recreated but the podcast date was still taken from the date it was uploaded, not from the date I selected.

Hi, the long and short descriptions seem to be reversed when viewed in either the MacOs or iOS podcast app. Is this just an Apple thing perhaps?

I'm not sure if this is a big deal, but the only issue I had with setup is a warning on the feed validation that the itunes summary should contain only plain text for maximum compatibility. I fixed this by emptying the $allowedTags array and commenting out the final CDATA encapsulation in the relevant function in functions.php

I'm using PG v2.6, exposure theme. When I add a new category I get the following message:
New category: Sermons
Category added!

But, when I return to category management, the category has not been added to the list. I've tried several times including logging out and in again. I've also tried the syndicate theme and got the same problem.

What do I do please?

I was unable to submit my podcast feed to iTunes store via the admin link, repeatedly the response in iTunes was

I have changed my feed_url replace config with my SoundCloud RSS url. How can I get the episodes to display on my Podcast Generator? I can see the RSS is showing to my SoundCloud but not getting the episodes to show.

22mb audio files work fine, but if I try to upload a 243mb mp4, I get an error message claiming it's my upload max file size or permissions error.

I've looked through the php and see no reasons this should be happening and was wondering if you have a clue.

Host is Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, standard LAMP stack with upload and post max set to 16GB (owncloud)

Currently the tag itunes:episodeType is always set to "full" (meaning a regular episode). This value can, according to the procotol, also be set to "trailer" or "bonus".

Thanks for Podcast Generator! It seems like a great tool that makes podcasting easy and we're very happy with it so far.

One minor problem I'm having is that podcast generator seems to be stuck in the timezone I used when setting it up and I can't seem to change it. This causes a bit of confusion when scheduling episodes to go live ahead of time. I've had a root around in the files but can't find anything obvious to change.

Some help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I have tried and failed several times to migrate an podcast generator to a new site. What I've tried so far is installing a new upload of PG to the new site, then uploading via Filezilla all the media files, the feed.xml, and the categories.xml files from the old site. Once I refresh the homepage after doing that, all the podcasts (sermons) have the same publish date and are all out of order. I've also tried following directions for doing an upgrade, but got the same results. Am I missing a step? Is there a way to keep the published dates and order of the sermons without having to manually go in and edit the dates in the feed.xml file? There are a few hundred sermons!!!

Is there a way to change the favicon of our website powered by Podcast Generator?

The easy fix is to manually create the media directory or include it in the git repo, but to make things easier for the end user, the setup script should probably create it if it doesn't exist. I received some warnings.

When I upload an old episode, I choose the date from the drop-down menu. However, when the upload is finished, the episode date becomes today's date. I end up needing to modify the date after the file is uploaded. Is there a solution to this problem? I have got hundreds of old episodes to upload and I do not wish to edit all of these episodes after they are uploaded.

I've uploaded 5 episodes of my company's podcast with your tool and everything worked perfectly, but when I try to upload the 6th episode nothing happens. I can make edits to the episodes that are already apart of the RSS feed. but I can't add another episode.

When I fill out all of the required fields and click the "Upload Episode" button, I get a loading pop-up that runs for a couple minutes. After that, the screen goes white with the URL like the one below.

When trying to follow the FAQ[1] to disable listing a podcast on iTunes, the steps do not match the current UI. I've not been able to find the settings to prevent any interaction with the iTunes podcast directory.

We've been using your platform for a year and love it. Although we've recently run into a snag and I'm hoping you can help. All newly uploaded episodes via FTP are showing as 0MB inside Podcast Generator.

The files on the FTP are fully uploaded. I can see them on the FTP server themselves. However when I try to index them into Podcast Generator, Podcast Generator generates an episode, but the file is 0MB.

I've tried removing faulty episodes, re-uploading, etc etc. Nothing seems to work.

Uploading through Podcast Generator works but our shows are typically an hour and larger than 50 MB.

Any support you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for providing the platform!

I'm having a strange issue when I try to upload a back dated podcast, say from July 1st. 2017. I fill in all the fields as expected, but the upload has today's date as the file name, eg. 2017-10-20_test.mp3 and even if I go in and edit the information, it says it's updating but nothing changes and there are no errors. This has also affected the sort order when the files are displayed. I went in and manually changed the filename and xml filename to the proper date, but they still all appear with today's date and I can't sort them. Very strange. Any help appreciated and thank you.

I want to assign various podcast files to categories then show only the categories on the open screen to PodcastGenerator. Then pick the category and get all of the podcasts that have been assigned to that category. Is this possible and how do I go about it?
