cicon-plantuml-sprites's Introduction

Cloudinsight PlantUML sprites

This repository contains PlantUML sprites generated from Cloudinsight icons, which can easily be used in PlantUML diagrams for nice visual representation of popular technologies.

This project is inspired in other PlantUML sprites repositories like AWS-PlantUML and PlantUML Icon-Font Sprites.

Usage

Just import the proper sprite into your PlantUML diagram and use it like any other sprite.

Example:

@startuml

!define SPRITESURL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/rabelenda/cicon-plantuml-sprites/v1.0/sprites
!includeurl SPRITESURL/tomcat.puml
!includeurl SPRITESURL/kafka.puml
!includeurl SPRITESURL/java.puml
!includeurl SPRITESURL/cassandra.puml

title Cloudinsight sprites example

skinparam monochrome true

rectangle "<$tomcat>\nwebapp" as webapp
queue "<$kafka>" as kafka
rectangle "<$java>\ndaemon" as daemon
database "<$cassandra>" as cassandra

webapp -> kafka
kafka -> daemon
daemon --> cassandra

Example

The list of available sprites is here.

You can play around and test ideas with PlantText.

Build

Sprites are built with provided svgFont2plantUmlSprites.groovy script. To update sprites from icons in Cloudinsight icons just re-run:

./svgFont2plantUmlSprites.groovy https://raw.githubusercontent.com/cloudinsight/cicon/master/iconfont.svg

Note

  • All logo icons are the registered trademarks of their respective owners.

cicon-plantuml-sprites's Issues

Join https://github.com/plantuml-stdlib and/or migrate there?

Several of us have been making an effort to bring together the projects and people who feed sprites into the official plantuml-stdlib.

We've been doing this under https://github.com/plantuml-stdlib/, with the go-ahead of Arnaud Roques (creator of PlantUML)

This ticket is to ask whether you would be interested in joining that effort and/or migrating this project to the PlantUML-StdLib organization.

The main reason for asking is to see if, by joining forces, we can make sure that any sprites already added to the official plantuml-stdlib remain maintained.

Of course, the same question also applies to https://github.com/rabelenda/gilbarbara-plantuml-sprites/

So, what do you think?

Add Akka Sprite

It would be nice if we could add the Akka logo as part of this library.

Add Kotlin sprite

It would be nice if we could add the Kotlin logo as part of this library.
Is the only thing needed a version of the Kotlin logo as a black and white png?
Any other requirements to be aware of?

Integrate Cloudinsight icons into PlantUML

Many thanks for your contribution!
If you are ok with the idea, we would like to include your library into the standard distribution of PlantUML.
(so in https://github.com/plantuml/plantuml/tree/master/stdlib like we have done for milo-minderbinder/AWS-PlantUML#20 )

That way, people would be able to use it out-of-the box with the following syntax:

@startuml
!include <sprite/tomcat>
!include <sprite/kafka>
!include <sprite/java>
!include <sprite/cassandra>

title Cloudinsight sprites example

skinparam monochrome true

rectangle "<$tomcat>\nwebapp" as webapp
queue "<$kafka>" as kafka
rectangle "<$java>\ndaemon" as daemon
database "<$cassandra>" as cassandra

webapp -> kafka
kafka -> daemon
daemon --> cassandra

@enduml

Your repository would still be the official source for this library: we would just duplicate files into our repository.

What do you think about it ?
