I'm using your docker images everyday. And thank you for this !
I've tried to add a PHP 7.1 support but it seems that it is something more complicated than I think.

Do you think it will possible for you to add this ?

php-cs-fixer.phar is downloaded in /var/app if it is not found.

I am getting this info, then the container freezes:
INFO exited: app-init (exit status 1; not expected)

I run the following command:
docker run --name my-project -v ~/my-project:/var/app -P --link mysql56:mysql -e APP_CREATE_PROJECT="symfony/framework-standard-edition" -it phpmentors/symfony-app:php55

There's currently no way using Docker with Kitematic to add a volume for a specific directory unless it was defined in the Dockerfile as a VOLUME directive.

The suggestions is expose the app volume through the Dockerfile, and then is possible to change it via Kitematic

I think it will be better to have bash scripts ending with ".sh" extension for the filename just like some.

Maybe it is some reasons behind this ?
"init" scripts doesn't have any extensions compare to "locale.sh" for example.

app-init causing infinite loop on docker run while app-init returns with non-zero.

Running a container with a new project creation

docker run --name <name> -v /path/to/php-app:/var/app -e APP_CREATE_PROJECT="symfony/framework-standard-edition" -d phpmentors/php-app:php55

Running a container with a new project creation with the specified version

docker run --name <name> -v /path/to/php-app:/var/app -e APP_CREATE_PROJECT="symfony/framework-standard-edition" -e APP_CREATE_PROJECT_VERSION="2.3.*" -d phpmentors/php-app:php55

This allows you to run a container with your init script.

docker run --name <name> -v /path/to/php-app:/var/app -e APP_INIT_SCRIPT=docker/app-init -d phpmentors/php-app:php55
