httpd -X -c "Listen $port" &

# Curl local server on the selected port
curl localhost:$port

Golang example:

package main

import "github.com/phayes/freeport"

freeport's Issues

Switch to proper semver Go tag name (prefixed with a "v")

Go requires Git tags to start with a v in order for them to appear as a non-pseudo-version number inside
go.mod. See https://go.dev/doc/modules/version-numbers

For example, my go.mod says

	github.com/phayes/freeport v0.0.0-20220201140144-74d24b5ae9f5

whereas this is the preferred way (and even compatible with dependabot and other tools!):

	github.com/phayes/freeport v1.0.2

Instead of tagging 1.0.2, prefix tags with v: v1.0.2.

Thank you! ๐Ÿ˜Š

Issues in main.go?

Hi!

Looking at

port, err := freeport.GetFreePort()
if err != nil {
log.Fatal(err)
}
fmt.Println(strconv.Itoa(port))
I found that:

  • There is no os.Exit(..) here that would prevent strconv.Itoa to operate on 0. Is that intended?
  • (Given the flexibility of fmt.Println, plain fmt.Println(port) should work without strconv.Itoa, true?)

Best, Sebastian

Return errors maybe?

Hi there,
I'm little hesitant to use the lib in my code as it just panics on error. How about returning errors?
