The as1 feed should use the mime-type application/stream+json instead of application/json.

(I am the author of the http://wordpress.org/plugins/activitystream-extension/ and I discovered the ticked http://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/25639)

The current spec doesn't specify a MediaType or a Discovery mechanism, there is only a wiki page http://wiki.activitystrea.ms/w/page/1359241/Autodiscovery

The spec 2 references application/stream+json as the MediaType of 1.0 (http://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-snell-activitystreams-04#section-5) so I think it's better to use that, instead of application/activitystream+json. And I think rel="alternate" should be enough because all other values are not really in use.
