abortive-work's Issues

Signs for controlling item placement on conveyor belts

  • build signs
    • add sign to build mode
    • when sign hold thing, show thing
  • use sign for controlling which thing should be placed on conveyor belts nearby
    • when sign holds thing, imps want to place thing on nearby belts
    • player can place things in signs
    • placer can remove things from signs
  • remove mark/unmark interact with belt logic and ui sign is signal for marking, augment helps too
  • sign design
    • try a board with a model on it (tried a wood box, tilted weirdly so camera can see front, put lyon shape on front to represent content)
    • try flat magic circle and put flat lyon shape or 2d picture into it, have key to raise flat circle to enhance visibility
  • which things are influenced by a sign?
    • currently this is done by augmenting trees and boulders because they are marked by the sign
    • other ideas? ring, links, differently colored highlights?

Conveyor belt issues

  • ghost flickers over normal belt
  • snaps to already occupied belts
  • no direction indicator
  • small belt segments block since their length is smaller than item size
  • loop belt with full items just explodes
  • for fix see factorios belt bug http://pubby.games/factorio.html
  • items not shown
  • when in conveyor belt build mode, you should see a short snapping ghost already

How to let imps store things on a conveyor belt?

Questions

  • How to trigger and untrigger? (Trigger question)
  • How to choose what can be placed and what not? (Choice question)
  • How to see where what can be placed? (Visibility question)

Alternatives

Trigger by demonstration

Player is dropping a thing on the belt to "mark" it to accepting these kinds of things. First tried this with primary usage key, no other interaction. Conflicts with placing things on a belt without marking it. Need the thing in inventory prior, selected, solving choice question. Solves trigger question, just a matter of keys. Does not solve visibility question.

Place a sign

Player is placing a sign, written on it is the thing, area effect on belts so things can be placed there. Sign solves visibility question. Building a sign is like building anything else and mere existence triggers placing, so trigger question solved. Choice could be menu but it could also be like in minecraft, placing an inventory item into the sign, which would solve the choice question.
