What is VaaS?

Visualization as a Service ("VaaS") is an open-source tool that allows users to monitor their Kubernetes clusters in real-time via powerful performance and cost metrics visualization dashboards. VaaS also offers users a platform-agnostic solution for deploying serverless functions into their clusters via OpenFaaS integration. It will eventually be a one-stop shop for all of your Kubernetes monitoring and maintenance needs.

VaaS is actively being developed with the support of OSLabs and we are always looking for contributors and feedback.

Features

  • Monitoring key metrics of multiple clusters from a centralized dashboard
  • Graphical visualization of your clusters including all pods, services, deployments, and their status, powered by KubeView
  • In-depth graphical visualization of key cluster metrics, powered by Grafana
  • Execution of custom queries on your cluster via the Prometheus API
  • Monthly cost forcasting by common cost categories, powered by Kubecost
  • Deployment, invocation, deletion, and cost estimates of serverless functions via OpenFaaS

Getting Started

vaas's Issues

Complete Dark Mode Implementation

Currently, dark mode preference is stored in MongoDB with CRUD functionality in admin settings.

Once #89 and #90 are complete, dynamically render MUI colors based on dark mode setting.

ReadMe - OpenFaas - Arkade

In the readme it asks you to install arkade by running:
arkade get arkade

This does not work, please update with correct command. This works:
brew install arkade

Favorite button

  • Currently has rerendering issues, could possibly revert to simple state management temporarily instead of rerendering favorites to top of page

Update admin

  • No error prompts and needs to update username token in local storage and state

Updating and improving ReadMe

  1. Include more information on setting up .env files and connecting to database
  2. Flesh out more of the installation process after npm install
  3. Continue to Improve readability

Delete Cluster

  • Currently deletes the cluster from the db on click but needs to rerender the list of clusters

Build out cost tracker

Idea to add module that analyzes metrics and puts a price tag on them... maybe even projections.

Feasibility: Likely, a similar product already exists. Study that product, and port over the logic.

Replace Gauges

Currently, the library used to present the gauges in the Kube component throws dependency errors and requires a force npm installation. We will be replacing this library.

Add cluster

  • Does not redirect or give any prompts after adding a cluster
