open-ideas-collective's Introduction

Open Ideas Collective

I am always thinking of ideas and problems that can be solved, either for the good of humanity, to hustle it up or just have some plain ol' fun. In that spirit, I decided to codify those stray thoughts into ideas that can be implemented or solved by the community as a whole. Taking it a step further, why shouldn't we democratize idea sharing and let anyone come up with ideas that are worth implementing? ๐Ÿ”ฅ

The purpose of this collective is to have the ideators document their ideas in the form of issues, and have the do'ers execute it for the purpose of learning, progress and entertainment! ๐Ÿ’ช

There is no restriction to the nature of the idea or if it spans across disciplines and methodologies. Neither is any idea too grand or too small. Have an idea in fashion/design/computer science/political science/civil service/mathematics/typography/manufacturing/gaming/(literally-anything)? Great! Let's go get it! ๐ŸŒˆ

Keep in mind, any ideas posted here are fair game to be implemented by anyone who chooses to do so. There are plenty of good ideas to go around, so don't be miserly! This is a collective of open ideas, open thoughts and open minds! ๐Ÿ‘

If you are thinker, make sure to have snappy titles for your issues so people are attracted to it and in the description of your idea be sure to add as much detail as you can to help someone ( if not yourself! ) figure out how to proceed. ๐Ÿค”

If you are a doer, don't hesitate to open a dialog with the person who posted the idea or even anyone else in the community! This will ensure you get the best inputs from everyone before you go off and work on the idea! ๐Ÿ™Œ

Without further ado, let the games begin! ๐ŸŽณ

Apply data science/modeling techniques to figure out if there is any kind of bias to starting first in Scrabble. Are there any datasets that show that starting first is a disadvantage in the game of scrabble? Despite the shuffle of tiles being random, is there an inherent disadvantage to starting first, especially in a 2 player game? How does that scale as the number of players in the game increase? How does this compare to other 2 player games, like checkers/chess/penalty shootouts in a soccer game?

  • If this is a new idea, what is the motivation / use case for your idea?
I was talking with a friend who suggested that based on the arrangement of squares on the board, the player starting first is always playing catch-up and I basically want to find out if there is any proof in that pudding!

Have the ability to have a highlights reel or replay of some sort of the projects that you star on github. Basically a playback of the projects starred in the past, either randomly or through some algorithm to pop "relevant" starred projects back into your radar

  • If this is a new idea, what is the motivation / use case for your idea?
I star a whole bunch of projects that I find interesting on Github. I also see other people starring 100s of 1000s of projects. However, there is on good mechanism to rediscover starred projects at a relevant time. There are ways to slice and dice starred projects based on languages but that is pretty crude. Sometimes I dont even remember I had starred a project in the past and it would be nice if there was some kind of reminder every once in a while.

  • If the current behavior is a bug, what is the expected behavior?

it could be like an instagram feed of starred projects to make it more memorable or like a tinder-esque card based layout to swipe if you use the starred project etc.
