sometimes people have not received the mail with the confirmation link after signing up. there should be an option for the user to request to re-send it.

collect statistics about users and present them properly. e.g. pie chart with countries and number of corresponding participants. only make the statistics visible to admins for now.

probably turning on compression will do a lot.

Recovering the password and becoming marked as paid should also set the user to the status of "activated".

after a user has successfully confirmed their account, they should be logged in automatically
