ttv-ublock's Introduction

TTV ad-block

Twitch has circumvented this method of ad-blocking with a third-party extension warning screen.

The extension is still available as described below, but depending on your usage, may not be adequate. This repository is now archived.

@pixeltris has also curated some possible alternative methods: https://github.com/pixeltris/TwitchAdSolutions

Works best when paired with uBlock Origin

Chrome/Firefox extension that should? block ads on Twitch.

For security, this extension uses the minimum amount of permissions possible, and the code is as simple as possible.

Chrome installation

Download the extension from the Chrome extension site: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ttv-ad-block/kndhknfnihidhcfnaacnndbolonbimai

If you previously did a manual installation, remove that extension and install this one for automatic updates.

Firefox installation

Download the extension on the Firefox addons site: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ttv-adblock/

If you previously did a manual installation, remove that extension and install this one for automatic updates.

Notes and troubleshooting

  • If you previously did the userResourcesLocation trick in uBlock, remove that script and purge the cache, as it will conflict.
  • If you have "Alternate Player for Twitch.tv" installed, disable it.

ttv-ublock's Issues

how install in edge?

hello,

I have seen that these instructions are for chrome and firefox, but I cannot find it for other browsers such as edge.
It works the same for chrome and edge since they are both based on chromium (?)

Ads get through twitch streams..... yet AGAIN

Ads are getting thru the extension to twitch streams AGAIN, twitch programmers are HORRIBLE, they need to quit trying to counter adblockers for pennies, all that makes them are petty. I hope u can get an update out soon

Constant Errors

I keep getting Error #2000 and sometimes Error #1000 when using the extension on Chrome.
I can fix it easily by refreshing page or using the reset player button of the FFZ extension but it's becoming a little annoying to have to do it several times (10 in 10 minutes, sometimes less).

Is there any fix for this?
If not, can the extension auto reset the player when it detects this error?

Not currently blocking ads anymore

I know that Twitch has been restricting the player to 360/480p and you edited the script recently in an attempt to mitigate those changes, however, the script now no longer actually blocks the ads. Also, don't recommend Twitch alternate player, that thing has like 30s of delay.

Edit from maintainer:

Please try the latest standalone extension version, which should block ads as of Nov 8th: #3 (comment)

Ads rolling again :(

I´m using this Extension for a few Days now. Everything was fine and nice and clean without Ads, i was so happy, and now they are back. I hope you find a new solution. You are all doing a very great Job. <3

I´m using the Extension with Firefox in Europe, Germany.

greetings

Firefox extension no longer blocking prerolls

Hi, the addon hasn't been blocking the preroll ads for me recently. I'm not sure what changed. I went through the listed troubleshooting steps and some of my own including deleting cookies and site data for Twitch to no avail. Even went so far as to check if it's the same situation in incognito mode, which it is.

Any ideas what else I can do?

Ads in pop out player

When you pop out the player, the player in the new window has ads.

I think the fix is updating the matches for the content_scripts in manifest.json so it includes player.twitch.tv as well.
(perhaps to "*://*.twitch.tv/*")

Thank you for all the great work!

We broke again boys

I'd love to contribute to keeping this updated, cause these ads are killing me.

1.1.1 seems to be not working, McDonald's is telling me to not use the ketchup in my fridge again.

Commercial break in progress

Basically same issue as this thread

No preroll but during a midroll this overlay is displayed, even on channels that claim to not have unscheduled midrolls (e.g. cohhcarnage)

No channel points

Current version disable channel points gains, if there's no workaround this, can the extension be disabled in specific channels?
