icloud-control's Introduction

A note about macOS Catalina

macOS Catalina (10.15) includes new functionality that makes iCloud Control redundant.

  • In the context menu, accessible by right clicking on a file / folder in iCloud, there are two new options:
    • Download Now: Works the same as the "Download selected item" option in iCloud Control
    • Remove Download: Works the same as the "Remove selected item locally" option in iCloud Control
  • You can now share files in iCloud by using the share menu and choosing "Add People". To obtain a public link, select "Copy Link", and then under "Share Options", "Who can access", choose "Anyone with the link".

Because of these changes, it is time to retire iCloud Control. I will no longer be maintaining it, but will leave the repository online for those that may still find it useful for older macOS versions.

iCloud Control

Adds a menu to the Finder that allows control over files stored iCloud, allowing user-controlled selective synchronization.

Installation

  • Download the latest version here
  • Place the app in your Applications folder
  • Launch it by right/control clicking and choosing "Open" (to prevent gatekeeper from preventing the app to open) and follow the instructions on screen

Usage

The following options are provided through a toolbar item in the Finder.

  • Remove selected item locally: the selected item(s) will be removed from your device, while remaining in iCloud.
  • Download selected item: download previously removed files from iCloud. On macOS Sierra, the cloud icon provides the same functionality.
  • Publish public link: places a link to the selected file in your clipboard.

Compatibility

iCloud Control should work on macOS 10.2 Sierra, and on OS X 10.11 El Capitan.

Publish Public Link is not working on Mac OS 10.12.3

Hi

I tried iCloud-Control with Mac OS 10.12.3. It seems to work fine except for "Publish Public Link".

When I choose "Publish Public Link" the clipboard empty itself and I don't get anything.

Thank you

Pascal

How to fully remove the extension?

Hi Robbert,

I am on Catalina now.

How do I remove all traces of the InControl extension?

  • Finder toolbar item
  • Finder right-click menu
  • Generically the effects of the extension.

Regards, Arjen.

V1.2 not working on Sierra 1.12.6, V1.1 works

Title says it all. I have tried all permutations including removing all other Finder extensions. killing the Finder, etc.

I can switch back and forth. V1.1 shows up on the Toolbar, v1.2 does not. V1.2 works for me on Mojave.

iCloud Control App Icon Disappears

Brilliant app, I have well over 1 TB on iCloud on my 256GB MacBook and was just getting used to never being able to use my app as MacOS would start automatically downloading everything.

Issue on Mojave 10.14.4 - When a large amount of files are selected and asked to remove locally the iCloud Control icon disappears after 5 seconds. I'm unsure if it is actually removing locally.

how to stop iCloud to download to my Mac?

yesterday I successfully used your app to clear 50gb of space in my Mac.
But today, iCloud is downloading back and I can't stop it.
Can you modify the app to prevent iCloud to download selected items to the Mac?
Thank you very much.

ToolBar Icon not showing on 10.14.2

My system was upgraded tp Mojave running iCloud Control 1.1 a while back. All was working ok.

I upgraded to the newer rev and it is neither showing on the Toolbar nor in customization.

  • Extension has been added
  • I have added to to full disk access just in case

Any thoughts?

m1?

it seems it is no longer support m1. :(( It is the best app ever.

How to remove?

Amazing little app. No longer need it though as I am excusing myself from icloud for data storage and now the little helper finder thing is blank but still there. How do I remove it? Thank you.

iCloud Control stopped working

Is it just me or did it just stop working? If I try to remove files locally, I get the status "waiting" on the button in Finder. Nothing is locally deleted. Any feedback is welcome.

Disable download permanently?

Hi,

Is it possible to mark a folder to never download content unless explicitly allowed to?
I find that if I remove the download and go into the folder it automatically starts downloading.

thanks

How to uninstall?

What's the method for removing iCloud Control from your OS X after upgrading to 10.15? Or should I simply remove the button from the Finder customization? Thanks.

How to use with folders?

First of all--thanks for putting this together.

Right now, I can only remove/download if I've selected the particular file(s). Is it possible to remove/download entire folders? Or is there some way to run these actions from the command line so I can programmatically select everything in a folder?

Publish Link

Sometimes when i use the Publish Public Link option the app crashes, disappearing from the finder menu, other times it works perfectly.

iCloud and Hotspot

As you are an expert on iCloud sync, did you also notice that iCloud stops syncing when you connect to an iOS hotspot?

Not showing up on macOS 10.13.6

Installed it, was excited to try it out, it doesn't show up at ALL in finder nor in the custom controls, after enabling in extensions.

Non-synced items are forgotten after a reboot

It seems that if items are deleted locally (and thus marked as not-to-sync), this is forgotten after a reboot.

Is there a way to set the no-sync status via the commandline so I can automate the process of persisting these settings after a reboot?

This app is still relevant on macOS Catalina and higher

I don't know if posting this as an issue is the way to go, but I just wanna share this.

I'm on macOS Big Sur. I had an issue with not being able to remove a 60 GB folder locally (lets call it 'Cloudfolder'). macOS offers the option of removing a download, but only if all the subfolders and files are downloaded.

In my case only a few sub folders of 'Cloudfolder' were saved locally. When right-clicking the 'Cloudfolder' in the Finder, it only gave the option 'Download Now'. This meant that the only way to fix this was to download the 60 GB folder with all its subfolders and files, just to be able to remove it completely locally again.

With iCloud Control I could just 'Remove selected item locally'. It does the trick, easy, saves time, with no unnecessary downloads.

Why Remove selected item locally is not working?

Hello

It's finally found your software that I have been looking for, but "Remove selected item locally" is not working. My environment is mac OS sierra 10.12.3. I selected a folder or file on the finder, and selected a "Remove selected item locally" in menu, but any items is not removed.

Thank you

Tomohiro

Hight Sierra

Looks like application is not working on High Sierra OS. I have tried to install it to 2 different machines, 1 is MacOS Mojave, and second - High Sierra. Mojave works perfectly while High Sierra is not even showing the icon on iCloud bar

iCloud Control icon not displaying

Hi I'm running a bit of a vintage machine (OS 10.12.6) so apologies as this is an edge case but the iCloud Control icon is not displaying in Finder.

I have turned on permissions to the extension and restarted my machine as well as relaunching Finder.

Any help would be much appreciated as this looks like a great tool
