Adding gem 'faraday_middleware' to the Gemfile seems to have cleared this up. It also appears that faraday middleware was not included as a runtime dependency in the gemspec, so that might be an issue. I'm leaving this open, until I know this is resolved, but again, currently running rake spec now works as advertised.

On the other hand, running the rspec command brings up this error:

/Users/Raevynheart/.rvm/rubies/ruby-2.0.0-p247/lib/ruby/site_ruby/2.0.0/rubygems/specification.rb:2000:in `raise_if_conflicts': Unable to activate rspec-2.14.1, because rspec-core-3.0.0.beta2 conflicts with rspec-core (~> 2.14.0) (Gem::LoadError)

from marvel.
