Upon completing the install instructions and opening the Firebase link to the project, the result is as shown and does not move past this loading page. I followed the steps as described but is there something else that I may be missing?

The default parameter in .firebaserc should be changed to application name in order to avoid access right violations.

I was facing this error and it was resolved when I set the default value to my application name (lti-starter).

Corresponding update to the README should be made if this is the case.

I modified the code locally to display "isValid", "consumerKey" and "consumerSecret" fro debugging.
Is there something I'm missing here?

From what I can think, it is some permission issue. Cannot find out what though.
