collection_boxes's Issues

No new scrapes?

Hey @nstory, I was out of town for a few days, but checked back to see if regular scrapes were running to generate new CSVs, but I don't see any. Has the scraping stopped?

I did some basic analysis on the first 3 CSVs (8-15, 8-17, and 8-19) but it's hard to tell exactly what's going on so I decided to wait for more data. Thanks!

How can we help?

Hey Nathan, first, thank you for doing this. I had the same idea and when trying to find a way to detect the removal of collection boxes, I came across your excellent site mailboxlocate.com, which after some googling, eventually got me here.

Is there anything you need as far as support? My background is in data science and machine learning, but I'm also experienced with javascript and leafletjs. I have started a fork that will be focused on analysis of the data in Python using Pandas and other tools, but would be happy to move it in to a separate folder or branch of this repo if you think that would work better. Thanks again and please let me know how I can contribute.

Reliability of Scraped Postal Data vs FOIA

This issue is to discuss the potential problem of the postal box locations not being updated. An alternative could be a FOIA request made weekly for current locations to guarantee the accuracy of the information. I am happy to submit some of those FOIA requests, and we could also do it publicly via MuckRock. Please let me know your thoughts.

FOIA excel file missing collection box location

Hi - I don't use github so I'm really not sure how this is supposed to go, but I have a question. I found your website ( https://tools.usps.com/find-location.htm ) and clicked the data button at the bottom leading me here. I want to use the data for GIS purposes for a class project. When I downloaded the FOIA zip file and looked at the excel file, I compared the locations your website lists for a specific town (just to cross check) in California to the data within the table, and the data table only lists one post office within the city while your website shows roughly 15. What happened to them and where can I find these locations with their latitude and longitude?

Another question - do you have the metadata for this? I wanted to filter by post offices and collection boxes, however, I'm not sure what all the different codes within the FACILITY_SUBTYPE refer to. Any help would be appreciated.

Again, sorry, I never use github, I just stumbled across this data and would love to use it. Not sure if there is a private message feature or some easier way to discuss? Thank you!

FOIA question

hey! would love to connect offline for a quick call about questions I have if you are free? Thanks! Justin
