Not indicate nesting for the next interval

If an interval starts in a nest (the N-Check or N-dot) option, then the next interval should NOT indicate nesting. So the icon in the next interval should be the vertical line, indicating that the chimp is still present.

Propagate presented chimps to the next interval

In version 1, if a chimp was present in one interval, they automatically popped up as being present in the next (but with the nearest neighbor and proximity data reset to null). This doesn’t seem to be the case in version 2. Also, would it be possible for all those present in the previous interval to be sorted to the top?

Continue the follow with the summary screen

When continuing a follow (after a crash or power-down or something), it starts right at the beginning of the follow. I think it would be better to start at the interval at which the user left off. Better yet, as you develop the summary screen, it would be great if it began with the summary screen, then the user could choose which interval to go to.

Show certain / uncertain in summary screen time bins

I like the shading that indicates a chimp's presence in a given interval. Would it be possible to differentiate between 'certain' and 'uncertain' presence? That is, when there is a dot versus a checkmark on the main entry screen, could the checkmark/dot appear on the summary screen too?

Program crashes when tracking species and foods

When entering the presence of other species, the program crashes when moving on. Also, the times that are pulled up appear to always correspond to the first 15-minute interval of the follow, rather than the current interval. This also happens for the foods.

Change symbol for chimps stays for the whole interval

"When a chimp is present in one interval (e.g. 10:15), and it is automatically listed as present in the next (e.g. 10:30), the 10:30 icon should be a single vertical line (rather than a “T”). This indicates that he/she is there for the whole 10:30 interval. If s/he leaves, then the user will update. Also, the 5M and JK data should reset to the default (X and N), while C and U should stay the same."

Export all data

Finally, it's so great that you've got it set up to email the output, although I can see that right now it's just sending a follow summary. I'd love to see what the actual data look like. Is there a way I can see the data files?

Remove departed chimps in the next interval

"When a chimp is marked as departing during one interval (upside-down “T”), it should not show up as present in the next interval. Also, it should have no data in the C, 5M, U or JK column"

Add grooming column

"Is there room for a 'grooming' column that works like the proximity column?"

Sort previous chimps to the top

"Would it be possible for the chimps that were present in the previous interval to sort to the top of the list when moving on to the next interval?"

Allow focal chimp to depart

It is possible that the focal chimpanzee may not be seen for a portion of a follow, but the app doesn’t seem to allow this. If the focal departs at say 9:34, the app does not let me progress beyond the 9:45 interval.

Fix nesting in follow arrival exports

The nesting column in Follow_arrival doesn’t seem to be accurate, but I imagine you will fix this when you add the end-in-nest option that I described in the last long list of updates.

Consolidate data entry notification in the follow screen

In version 1, there were warnings if nearest neighbor and proximity data weren’t entered, and also if there was an ‘open’ food or other species entry. We had talked about consolidating these into a single notification, if possible.

Add labels for the data entry boxes

As in version 1, is there a way to indicate what each of the data entry boxes is? That is – at first pass, it is unclear which box refers to swelling, nearest neighbor, and proximity

Showing female and male chimps in 2 cols

"I like the fact that the chimp IDs and associated data-entry boxes are bigger than in version 1, and the scrolling works. However, it does take a while to get to the bottom, and I worry a little that the guys might get lazt. I wonder if you could compromise, and make two scroll-able columns, with males on the left and females on the right (with the IDs in alphabetical order). Males don’t need a sexual swelling value, so that gives you a bit more room."

Make foods and other species work across multiple intervals

The biggest problem I'm having is with the foods and other species. They both seem to work perfectly if the bout starts and ends in the same interval. But, if I leave a bout 'open' into the next interval (or beyond), when it comes time to finish it, the original start time has been lost, and the only option is to pick a new start time in the current interval. If I don't do so, then the program crashes. Also, after completing an other species entry, rather than reverting back to the main screen, it opens the other species screen again.

Set default groom to none

In addition to the "give", "receive" and "mutual" options, there should also be a 'no groom' option. The best thing would be for the cell to be blank. To explain a bit more, the grooming column is like the 5m column - if a chimp is grooming with the focal at the start of a 15-minute interval, the user will indicate the direction of the grooming (G,R or M). Most individuals will not be grooming with the focal, so the default should be blank.

Make finished food bouts editable

"It doesn’t seem possible to edit food bouts that have been finished. The user should be able to change start/end time, food part, etc."

Align male labels

"For the males (left side of screen), “C”, “5M”, and “JK” should be centered over the check-boxes."
