nipy.github.io's Introduction

NIPY

Neuroimaging tools for Python.

The aim of NIPY is to produce a platform-independent Python environment for the analysis of functional brain imaging data using an open development model.

In NIPY we aim to:

  1. Provide an open source, mixed language scientific programming environment suitable for rapid development.
  2. Create software components in this environment to make it easy to develop tools for MRI, EEG, PET and other modalities.
  3. Create and maintain a wide base of developers to contribute to this platform.
  4. To maintain and develop this framework as a single, easily installable bundle.

NIPY is the work of many people. We list the main authors in the file AUTHOR in the NIPY distribution, and other contributions in THANKS.

nipy.github.io's Issues

Change `tumblr` links for links to `neurostars`

I've noticed that there there are a few links to tumblr throughout the website (e.g. contribute; neurostars is mentioned in the help and in the Discourse instance as the place to ask questions, though.

I've also noticed that the last question on tumblr was 2 years ago.

Maybe tumblr can be kept for blog posts, but maybe tumblr as a place to get help should be changed to neurostarts and/or the neuroimaging mailing list? And maybe the latter two could be better distinguished in their purpose when changing this?

Logo usage in manuscript

Dear all,

we are working on a manuscript about various open science tools in neuroscience, where we plan to include an overview figure with the different tools available. Therefore we wish to use the logo of NiPype. Are there any license restrictions, or can we just include the graphic into our manuscript?

Best regards,
Tina Schmitt

BUG: Website down

Just in case nobody has noticed, https://nipy.org appears to be down. Thanks goes out to our CIs for pointing it out. Feel free to close if this is a known issue.

[greater good pledge] request for participation

hey nipy family!

I'm creating a new initiative, The Greater Good that aims to highlight projects with no underlying incentives or ulterior motives - those that are "for the greater good." The nipy family of tools (I believe) fit strongly within the criteria, and I'm hoping that the community would like to participate. Participation simply means adding the community name to the pledge, and then (optionally) adding a badge to any associated project repos.

Details are provided at the page, and any maintainers / users here are welcome to also join the organization The Good Labs if open source transparency is important to them. It's still early (I'm going to be creating media and other community interactions) and right now I'm getting in touch with projects that I've worked with.

Nipy package info

link to the nipy page from the nipy section on the page points back to the same page

it should point to something specific about the nipy package

Remove references to nipy.github.io

Relative URLs are probably the safest way to go, since people's individual branches may be tested on a subdirectory of their own github.io domain.

I see:

contribute.html:<img src="http://nipy.github.io/images/reggie.png"/>
index.html:<h2 style="margin-top:20px; margin-bottom:20px">nipy.github.io</h2>

Code of Conduct Enforcement

Should the nipy code of conduct include resources for reporting behavior that violates community standards? This could be a more direct way to enforce standards established in the code of conduct.

Other communities that allow for reporting of code of conduct violations include Software Carpentry.

change the layout to spread the menu across the nav bar depending on viewport

if you see the following site: http://kaworu.github.io/octostrap3/

one a computer/tablet browser in wide mode, the menu expands out, while it compresses into the 3 lines icon on a smaller format display (like a phone). you can test it through the developer tools, or simply by expanding and compressing the size of the browser window.

it would be nice to have that capability on the nipy site. it seemed to be trivial till i realized the nipy site isn't using bootstrap.

Allow project logo & colors

Each project has it's own logo and look/feel. It'd be great to give a bit of that in the preview and project pages:

Perhaps defining a "logo" field in projects.yml, as well as a primary/secondary color that could be used to style the project preview and full page?

Clicking on project name or "learn more" should direct to project page

I think that it would be more useful than the current behavior if, when clicking on the project name (aka title of the box) on the front page, or on "learn more", the user was sent to the project page, rather than the current behavior.

(PS: this is a nitpick, the website is great!)
