New Frontier Sheriffs Department Tasklist

Overview

Introduce the New Frontier Sheriffs Department, a respriting and renaming effort to bring the security department to the, more thematically appropriate, sheriffs department.

Tasks

  • Create a new headset, titled NFSD, that won't be mapped inside of expeditions, and is exclusive to NFSD officers.
  • Create new uniforms and accessories modeled after Sheriffs Department attire, namely a new uniform for Sheriff, Bailiff, and Deputies, as well as their appropriate headgear. (Campaign Hat?!)
  • Alter items, such as PDAs, or create copies of said items, which reflect the name changes.
  • Rename Head of Security to Sheriff, rename Warden to Bailiff, and rename Security Officers to Deputies.
  • Fix gear given to roles on round-start to be NFSD gear.

There might be some other concepts I'm missing here, but I think that's the most important flavor-wise to get this rolling.

Sprite Requests

Overview

Many of our features get implemented for testing in our game mode before their art looks so great. So here will be a place we can refer contributors to who are looking to help out with either creating or porting sprites.

Priority Requests

These items are using placeholder/ugly/otherwise unfit sprites in the game and could use some urgent replacement:

  • EMP Emitter (the handheld one) (#478)
  • Shipyard and Security Shipyard (ugly computer screen recolors - could use more distinct looking computer type sprite overall) #171

  • Syndicate Contraband Crates. Think: Syndicate Corporate brands like Donk, Donut corp, Cybersun industries, etc. (#703)
  • AmmoVend (using the ammovend - I want to rename and replace the ammo vend to a 'survival vend' or similar and use the ammovend later)

  • Musician Vending Machine
  • More themed vending machines

Upcoming Features

These are sprites being requested for in-development features that need distinct looking features:

  • Syndicate Weapon Vending machine
  • Themed NT/Syndicate money shredding machine with animation (#442 )
  • Hand-Held radar device (no animation required though always appreciated)

Long-Term

These may be continual/open ended type spriting projects or ideas/suggestions or long term goals to replace sprite themes etc.

  • More walls, be they shuttle themed or even terrestrial themed like drywall/plaster/adobe etc.
  • More decals like established ship/station/point of interest names
  • Clothes, especially themed clothes, to start appearing as rare obtainables or through the loadout system
  • Creatures/Baddies/Space monsters
  • Plushies, we have a plushie vendor but why not just have some more plushies that can be rare, go wild, these are some of the simplest items to learn the basics of contributing anyway

Signature stamp needs its own entity

Description

overriding an existing stamp makes no sense

we should add the signature functionality to the PDA or something instead, so that anyone can sign papers and you don't have to use some strange object that doesn't make sense.

Vulpkanin Scream Sounds are unlicensed (Maybe more)

Description

Not a player facing issue, but a repo based one. The audio files don't have a license or attribution attached to them, could be problematic in the future.

Reproduction
Search the repo for "scream1.ogg" and you won't find any attribution or license file.

Phoenix Shuttle spawns with unwired solars

Description

The Solar panels to the north-east, to the right of the shuttle console (assuming the docking area is south) spawn naturally unwired.
Reproduction

  1. Buy shuttle
  2. Board shuttle
  3. EVA outside through the salvage door
  4. Head to the exterior of the cockpit, on your right
  5. Pass the solar tracker
  6. Look at the unwired solar panels

Additional context

This is inconvenient as it means you have to go buy a HV crate or you have to get steel to make HV cables.

Sprites and Audio Request for Ship vs Ship weapons

I'm current in progress of making a system that will allow for implementation of ship vs ship weaponry.
It is still heavily Work In Progress so at moment there aren't any definitive designs or ideas of weapons that will stick.

Although definetly something in form of "20th century 2nd WW style space artillery" will make an appearence.
Though don't feel limited to that!

Will need something for ballistic artillery, energy projectile artillery, laser (hitscan) projectile artillery and even more fun oriented throwers like "Clown's Honker" for example that shoots banana peals around or heh well, Felinid Cannons!

Will also most definetly need sprites for new projectiles too. With and without shells. Laser beams, plasma energy bolts. Or even more exotic things like large modular remotely activated bomb.

And will need some heavy and beefy sounds for firing of these beasts.
They aren't just small handheld arms. These are the big guns!
Heavy Clunky bassy shots! Go wild.

Things are moving bit slowly but with small steps and steadily.
When things are bit more developped where actual ideas are set more in stone then a TODO list might appear here.

Mail Loot Table needs rewriting

Description

its basically the same as what was from nyano around 1 year ago. At the moment, there are different loot tables for individual jobs, but these are tied to round-start or late-join job prototypes, and doesnt translate well to frontier, where 95% of players are passenger upgraded to captains.

Ideally, we would move it all to a big giant generic loot pool for all jobs. Im willing to still have SR/Sheriff get unique mails, because those roles actually get placed into their job prototype roles via the game code, whereas everyone else is technically a passenger and it only pulls from the passenger list.

Thats besides the point that its just an old loot table and is pretty boring anyway. We should jazz it up a bit, put some cash stacks of like 5k in the loot pool etc. Make them more exciting to open than just some snacks or a bad joke.

RD servers are not working on point of interest

Description

R&D servers cannot be selected for machines that are on points of interest
Reproduction

-Go to point of interest (e.g. anomalous lab)
-Find any machine that connects to server
-Go to Server list
-See that there are no servers
This happens even after rebuilding all devices involved in this, including the RD server itself
You can drag the RD server onto a shuttle and it will then become able to be connected to. I think this issue is related to the bandaid fix for default RD server sharing, but I haven't looked yet.

This really needs fixed because if we're going to make PoI's unable to be looted as we seem to intend to, then if we make machines unanchorable, people are going to disassemble them and take the boards, though maybe we can make them uncrowbarable? I dunno. Needs addressed.

overall I think this is a bigger issue with RD server fuckery but for right now it makes it impossible to set up a lab on a PoI which is especially problematic for the new anomalous lab.

Felinid hairballs from hell

Description

Felinid hairballs can crash players.
The OGG file also missing.

Not sure, im assuming just need to fix the code and add the missing sound file

Additional context
Ill probably fix it myself, just making a report to keep track of it.

Join Game Bug

Description

If you have the join menu open when a shuttle is added or otherwise edited, the UI lights them up as if you can play roles you shouldn't be able to without a whitelist or the role's time.

Reproduction

  • Have game menu open with Frontier Station on the selection
  • Have a player-controlled ship spawn that has roles
  • Roles you don't have time for/a Whitelist for on Frontier, now light up as if you could already play them, as long as a slot is open and the Menu is open
  • Closing the menu will return these to being greyed out as before

Accidentally found this while tweaking my settings while having the menu open, unsure if the menu is just a visual thing or if this can be abused to get roles in Security or otherwise illegitimately

Internal tanks automatically un-air their users if taken into the hand

Description

A round ago I tried to beat a wall with the oxygen tank I had on my suit in a hazardsuit atmosphere. Instead of my character taking it into his hand to smack the wall, my character instead removed it from his internals leading to an instant, poorly explained death.

Reproduction
Get an internals tank, equip it on a suit and turn it on.
Next, grab it in your hands and try to click something with it. Without explanation or warning, your character will instantly turn it off. This is pretty poor gameplay design, it's unintuitive because in real life I'd be able to hold it in my hand with the pipe going to my mask and bang things with it, instead of automatically turning it off in a risky situation. There are videos and images of people holding 02 tanks and using them at the same time on the internet.

Additional context
SS14 is advertised to be a newbie-friendly, more user-friendly, better quality of life game then SS13, so probably shouldn't feature odd designs where your character decides to kill themselves like this.

Air tanks in EVA Vendor cause suffocation due to high default pressure release

The air tank purchased from the eva vendor comes preset to 101 kpa compared to an O2 tanks default 21 kpa. This results in inexperiened players taking out a prospector and suffocating five times as quickly before they can find an air canister to refill at.
In the interest of gameplay, I think these air tanks should be replaced with O2 tanks in the vendor.

New secret doors show outlines

Description

New secret doors, such as the wooden wall door, momentarily show a green outline, revealing it to be a secret door. This can cause issues with metagaming, because even if we're MRP, we still have metagamers.

CryoWalker Glitch

players are capable of walking through walls with the use of the cryo bed and a specific set of directions
I dont know how to reproduce it however it seems that vaulting onto the cryobed and then sleeping but no acceptting it sometimes makes it so that you can walk through walls? Found this about 10 minutes ago however seems to be a bug that needs to be fixed or everyone will start abusing it.

Helix Defibs

Description

There some defibs on the Helix that can only be accessed from outside the shuttle. To my knowledge there's 2 you can actually access internally.

<I've seen that with some research consols that once they've been created they do not connect to the server thats on the ship but, instead connect to the oldest server (i.e if science ship 4 creates an tech disk machine, it will connect to science ship 1 and be able to take all their research).>

Deckard reload bug

Description

Deckard eats ammunition when trying to reload with speed loader

2.put 1 or 2 unspent ammo in the deckard and try reload the rest with with speed loader

Teleporting to 0:0 from any position on map

Description

Teleporting to 0:0 (Actually Frontier) from any position on map when taking someone on hands and trying to buckle on cart.

Steps:

  1. Have any cart (like ATV)
  2. Have any live or dead person
  3. Take person on hands (Alt+Click with empty hands on person)
  4. Move person from hands to cart with mouse
  5. Enjoy :)

Miasma planets might be killing carps in someway

Description

Noticed all carps were dead when arrived, while they have no internals they somehow died. probably something related to miasma or something else with the air change. need to test

A simple but effective fix would be that damaging the crate simply removes the Fulton, and they canโ€™t be put on cargo crates. Then just make it so they take double the extraction time in space, so itโ€™s litteraly just easier to walk. Fultons do highlight a problem though, and that is the absaloute pain that is maneuvering cargo crates. Maybe we need a sort of crate trolly item?

We already have something in the game that fultons are superseding, the Ripley, and in a game that's core gameplay loop is about traveling in vehicles, instant teleportation has 0 place fundamentally.

Pen permanently stuck on sign/stamp

Description

The dropdown for my pen doesn't let me select the 'write' option. Every round I start on stamp, and there's no way to change it. This has been going on for a while.

It says I stamped in the floating emote text, but the dropdown on the UI says sign. I'm not sure if that's normal or not. This did start on a round I was trying out stamps for the first time. This happens only with that particular option, not any other dropdowns. I have tried it at 100% UI scale (automatic) instead of 150% but it's still broken.

[Mega-issue] The big list of ship reworks

Draft of the new mapping guidelines were released on discord a while back, and many ships currently on the roster do not fit the bill anymore. This is a mega-issue listing all ships currently in the game, and if there needs to be work done on them. Please actively comment on this issue with PR links if you believe a checkbox should be ticked.

A checkbox can be ticked if and only if a ship rework is completed and merged.

SV Tide - Grav Generator

Description

Purchasing a new Tide ship, it's very clear there's no grav genny included in the purchase. However what's not-clear, and probably unintended, is if you do come across a grav generator from another source, it still doesn't work inside the tide.

NONETHELESS: I've Created some sprite sheets; Please let me know what i've done wrong (if I have!)

AMMOVEND v2 - VENDING MACHINES

  • - Added 4 Vendor Styles to Sprite Sheet;
    Vending V2: White Generic, Brown company Branded (Alternative), Security Red W/ Stripe, Pirate / Black Market Black.
  • - Too add more variation/variant assorted stock and ammo as produced for future updates.

Ship is entirely black, unable to do any interaction

Description

After my internet cut out when piloting a ship, I came back to see a completely dark ship.

As you can see, my flashlight is on, powered, but is not producing any light. I am completely unable to do any interaction such as selling my ship or interacting with an ATM before the round ends. This causes a softlock which requires an admin to help (as 90% of the crew seem to be in OOC groups and will likely not help you)

Reproduction
Not 100% sure what caused the issue, but this is how I experienced it:
Pilot a ship, in my case, fly it away from the main hub.
Disconnect your internet until the server brings you to the "lost connection screen".
Reconnect, and try to reconnect.

UPDATE: This continued to happen on a fresh round, and was resolved when I manually exited and re-connected to the server.

Alert levels seems to be different on each ship you are and do not follow station alerts

Missing Sparrow

The sparrow.yml seems to have vanished from frontier-station-14/Resources/Prototypes/_NF/Shipyard during the big merge but it's shipdata is still in frontier-station-14/Resources/Maps/_NF/Shuttles.
Without the description/ID/price .yml in /shipyard it cannot be purchased by players in-game.

Large Lizards are way stronger than Onis

After some playful shoving contests, I realized that Onis are overshadowed by large Lizard people in alot of ways when compared to each other.

Onis whole identity is barely any aim and pure muscles, but its hugely undermined when there's a mutation of a species that overpowers them during close quarter combat and more upsides due to them being a lizard, without any of the downsides that come with being big

In-Game Examples: Large Lizards can push Onis in 2 shoves, that never miss and pick them up fast in their arms;
Onis miss alot with their shoves on Lizard people, and when a shove connects it rarely matters since their stamina is way better and the next shove attempts will give them time to regain their stamina back;
Even though they are the same size, huge lizard people dont suffer from any aim deviation, unlike Onis extreme aim deviation where some guns (Automatic guns, Prokinetic gun) where they sometime shoot backwards.

I propose to make onis and large lizards the same level, either onis being better with having aim and better shove/stamina, or making large lizard people weaker compared to Oni due to their aim and being able to drag with their tail, different diet (eating raw meat is really cool, seems very warrior like and in theme with onis, wish onis could eat it too).

I just want Onis boons of combat to actually be an unique thing and for them to matter, other species being a better version of them just gives less and less reasons to be an Oni

Laughin' Syrup does not work, making laughin' peas worthless.

Description

Laughin' Peas generate somehing called laughin' syrup. It's SUPPOSED to make someone laugh when ingested, however- it does not. It's just a sweet chemical.

Check Merge Conflicts failed

Description

The big red X that plagues every pull request and commit, caused by just one action meant to detect merge conflicts apparently not having access to a resource. I'm not all too familiar with GitHub Actions but it would be nice to turn that red to green when there isn't actually an issue.

My best guess after taking a brief look is just that it's trying to apply a label that doesn't exist. In my completely uneducated theory, the solution should be as simple as a maintainer adding a label named Merge Conflict (presumably case-sensitive). If that doesn't work, I say we erase or disable the action entirely.

Low-priority issue, if you couldn't tell.

Art/Assets Requests

Overview

Our gameplay, rules, environment, and world are much different than that of regular Space Stations, but our lobby art, music, sound effects, and things like station announcements and sirens/klaxxons are all vanilla. The space station community in general is such a hugely creative and expressive community, and we should use that energy to stand out among the crowd and make our experience here on frontier truly unique.

Its important to note that these need to be royalty-free and in general streamer/youtuber friendly.

Bazaar vessel purchase bug

Description

When purchasing the Bazaar from the shipyard console, the machine will make a noise saying that you dont have enough money however will take money away from the player. There's no clear indication that the vessel is not going to appear apart from their being no ship ID on your personal ID leading to players not understanding or being confused that the vessel will not ever appear.

put in your ID, purchase the Bazaar and watch the money vanish with no ship appearing.

Right now there isn't a fast way to find a ship maker other then looking into PR or trying to find them based on username in discord
There need to be notes on every ship to allow fast feedback on them for fixing issues.

[Mega-issue] List of NFSD ships for resprite

With new airlocks, lockers, jetpacks, dressers, barriers and more from #1064, #1183 and #1205. NFSD ships now need new PRs that update the decals, lockers, airlocks etc. Ideally people could just change the prototypes in the yml and check it out in mapping to confirm. Please also move the ymls into /_NF/Security which haven't already been relocated and update the shipyard's mapPath. Also please include a screenshot of the ship in your PR for the wiki.

A checkbox can be ticked if the resprite PR has been successfully merged. It will then be linked.
Please mention this issue in ship PR's, as this automates a lot of this.
