camels's Issues

Difficult for a new user to navigate the hydromet files

It is difficult for a new user to navigate the hydromet files.

  1. When you unzip the datafile basin_timeseries_v1p2_metForcing_obsFlow.zip and you get two directories: basin_dataset_public and basin_dataset_public_v1p2. The directory basin_dataset_public is mostly empty, without readme files, and should be deleted.
  2. It is not immediately obvious where to find the description of data files. It could help to move all README files except readme_FIRST.txt to a docs directory
  3. The first 10 lines of dataset_summary.txt are repeated.
  4. I think that you need a short description of the file structure in readme_FIRST.txt
  5. In readme_FIRST.txt you say Hour is set to zero since these are daily values in readme_basin_mean_forcing.txt -- but in the daymet files this is set to 12. It could be useful to say what the hour represents -- e.g., forcing data for the previous 24 hours?
  6. It is cumbersome to navigate through the files. You will need to use file gauge_information.txt to identify the different files (directory and file name) and then other files basin_physical_characteristics.txt for additional information. Quite a bit of searching was required to even find gauge_information.txt
