srcdemo2's Issues

No frames being rendered

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.download srcdemo2
2.launch tf2
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
So I set up my settings for srcdemo2 then I click activate then I go to tf2 in
console and type host_framerate n where n reffers to the number of effective
recording fps srcdemo2 gave me. then I type in console startmovie srcdemo/test_.
the folder where I chose for srcdemo2 to save frames is in "SteamApps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf\srcdemo"
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
I use latest version of srcdemo2 and windows 7 x64

Please provide any additional information below.

I installed latest java version. It didn't tell me if its x64 or x86 version
when I downloaded it and I also downloaded Dokan lib

2.Click on the "Activate" button.
3.Set "host_framerate" to the specified value shown on SrcDemo2.
4.Start recording a movie in Team Fortress 2. ("startmovie srcdemo/prefix_")

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expected the game to start recording the frames, but instead it shows up the
following error "Couldn't write movie snapshot to file [...]" and stops
recording.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
I'm using SrcDemo2 build 2012-04-07 on Windows 7 Ultimate x64 with the latest
Java (both x86 and x64 versions) and dokan library installed.

I launched debug, here's what I got:

Debug mode enabled.
Finding java.exe / javaw.exe
Debug mode allows the console output to be logged to a file.
You may enter the complete path of the file to log to below.
Make sure it is writable (i.e. don't put it in the installation directory).
If you don't want the output to be logged, leave the line blank.
If you're not sure what to type, type "?" and SrcDemo2 will guess a filename for
 you.

Huge ammount of space created on the disk

Don't even know if it's related to this, Dokan or something else. But after
using this program for a while my SSD has lost a lot of space that I can't find
in any windows files(about 40 GB) and I figured it might have something to do
with the virtual drive created by lawena not getting deleted properly, could
this be related and if so, is there a fix?

(host_framerate etc,startmovie srcdemo2/someprefix_)
stopping recording (endmovie)
3.closing the game (tf2) and deactivating srcdemo2.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I want the final frames COMPILED WITH MOTIONBLUR, but I end up only getting the

Is it ok to get the newer version? Or should I sift through the old releases
for version 6? Thanks!

Mounting failed...

I didn't use your program forever and now it doesn't work. It worked so well
before. You have to update your program because Windows and Java are updating
their stuff too. You have to do that. I don't know why it works for other
people but there are still some that can't use srcdemo2. I know what the
problem is. Fix the mounting error for the folders. Also fix some other bugs
and test your program before you publish it. I hope you're working on it right
NOW.
Thanks.

Performance drops drastically after 300,000-600,000 frames

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Record a long (10+ min.) demo, and use it for rendering, noting starting
framerate.
2. Wait while a few hundred thousand frames render
3. Note the poor, jumpy framerate, start-stop-start-stop behavior of the game,
and java.exe maxing out one CPU core.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The program should maintain the same framerate throughout long renders, but
does not.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
2012-04-07. Win 7 x64. 32-bit JVM.

Please provide any additional information below.
Poor performance. Usually flips back and forth between my usual 30 to 4
repeatedly: http://i.imgur.com/zJwc7.png

Performance data. Note the spiky read IO and consistent 11-12.5% CPU usage (1/8
cores): http://i.imgur.com/k0AKW.png

Render settings:
Output FPS: 30
Blur multiplier: 32
Shutter angle: 180
Gaussian blending: No

If I had to guess, I'd say this is caused by a memory leak invoking GC every
few seconds (note that java.exe is using almost all it's available memory), in
which case the program should crash soon when the GC can't free enough memory.
If I wasn't several hours into a render, I'd turn on verbose GC and check my
assumptions; I might do so when my current render finishes/crashes. I'll leave
it running overnight, and report its status when I get back.

Original issue reported on code.google.com by [email protected] on 28 Dec 2012 at 5:00

Poor performance at very high resolutions and low blend rates

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Set the Video Output to PNG.
2. Set the game to a high resolution like 2560x1440
3. Render a demo with no blurring.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
SrcDemo2 runs very slowly, maxing out one core and producing ~1 frame per
second on my machine. I assume the bottleneck is only having a single thread
for compressing the enormous images to PNG.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Build 2012-04-07. Windows 7 x64 SP1.

Please provide any additional information below.
I'd like to see a configuration option for Number of PNG/JPG Compression
Threads, which defaults to the number of cores minus one. Also, perhaps there
should be a separate 'frame writer' thread, to handle a queue of frames to be
written, so that compression threads aren't waiting on IO.

Wont record properly?

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.Start SrcDemo2
2.Use saved settings that I've always used
3.host_framerate n
4.Startmovie srcdemo/someprefix_

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect for it to record properly, it saves all the images but the images are
nonstop, even when i endmovie they keep coming, and wont stop until I close
CSS(hl2.exe)

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Latest, Windows 7 64bit

Please provide any additional information below.
http://puu.sh/9KBtn/cf89c72071.png - This is what it looks like while
recording.

I've used srcdemo2 before on quite a few videos i've published and it worked
fine. but now it doesnt.. just 2 days ago i was using it.

I have all installations necessary to run SrcDemo2
