Welcome to FreeCodeCamp Sacramento! Our members are currently building the website. The purpose of our website is to have members learn how to use git and github and collaborating with others.

Code of Conduct

Please review our Code of Conduct before posting.

FreeCodeCamp Sacramento is a friendly place to learn to code. By using our community, you agree that you'll follow this code of conduct.

  1. No harassment or discrimination of any kind. Period! That includes sexual language and imagery, deliberate intimidation, name-calling, stalking, unwelcome attention, libel and any malicious hacking or social engineering. FreeCodeCamp Sacramento should be a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, national origin, or religion (or lack thereof).

  2. No spamming which includes no click-bait links, advertisements for a product or service, solicitations of any kind including emails, posting repeatedly in a short interval, and posting off-topic and irrelevant discussions.

  3. No illegal/pirated content, requests for it, distributing it, or information regards to pirating.

  4. Self-promoted products and services must be fully disclosed of your relationship to said products and services. First offense to this rule is a warning. Second offense is removing your post and blocking you from the group.

Reporting an incident

If you have any issues, problems, or concern, please inform one of the admins or moderators via Facebook messenger. Do not openly or privately discuss the violation as it will disrupt the community. The admins and moderators will investigate the incident, review, and take action if any violations has occurred. Please be patient with the process as we are not always available.

How to Contribute

  1. Create a Github account if you don't one
  2. Download or clone the repository to your local hard drive
  3. For macOS users (sorry Windows folks), in your terminal, install Homebrew by typing in /usr/bin/ruby -e "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/master/install)"
  4. Run brew install yarn in your terminal
  5. Using your terminal, navigate to the directory where you cloned the repository
  6. Using your terminal, run yarn install in the root directory
  7. Open your text editor and navigate to the directory
  8. See our "to-do" list under the "Issues" tab on Github and work on that task or you can start coding your own ideas!
  9. When finished, push your commit and we'll review your changes

How to Remote Pair Program

We are currently using Floobits for our remote pair programming needs. It has a bunch of features such as follow, built-in video chat/chatroom, terminal sharing, etc. It's a really awesome program. Here how you can use it:

  1. Create a free account at Floobits
  2. Follow the instructions for your favorite text-editor on how to install the floobits plugin (if you don't have one, you can use their browser-based text-editor)
  3. Join the workspace using the URL https://www.floobits.com/freecodecamp-Sacramento/fccsac
  4. Request permission to edit files
  5. Find a partner, or work by yourself, and you are good to go!

Join our Slack channel

We are apart of the SacTech community and utilize their Slack domain. To join, follow the instructions below.

  1. Go to SacTech Slack to get an invitation key.
  2. Once you are approved and logged into SacTech Slack, find our channel under #FreeCodeCamp
