Features

  • minimalistic design, with optional advertisements and focus mode while typing
  • type what you see, see what you type
  • live errors, wpm, and accuracy displays
  • a variety of test lengths and languages
  • punctuation and numbers modes
  • quotes
  • themes
  • smooth caret
  • account system
  • challenges and just-for-fun test modifiers
  • and much more

Discord bot

On the Monkeytype Discord server, we added a Discord bot to auto-assign optional roles based on typing performance and challenge completion. You can find its code over at https://github.com/monkeytypegame/monkeytype-bot.

monkeytype's Issues

Freedom mode

Allow total freedom with text editing, even changing words that were typed correctly

Punctuation setting applies to custom mode

If punctuation is selected in time or words modes, the setting remains after switching to custom mode.

While it could be useful for custom word lists, maybe a middle ground would be to show the punctuation setting when in custom mode

Add support for PT-BR

I would like to help on adding support for Brazilian Portuguese. However, I took a look at the code and it seems that I'd need access to Firebase, right? Please, let me know if I can help!

Discord integration

Make a discord bot that integrates with the website, assigns the top wpm role automatically and later on mentions users if they get beaten on the leaderboards

Some settings keep resetting to default

I've set "smooth caret" to off, and "live wpm" to on, but one or both reset themselves back to default on either browser restart or reboot.

"live wpm" seems to be consistently going back to default on browser restart.
"smooth caret" goes back to default more inconsistently.
The theme setting always stays where I selected.

This behavior occurs both when logged in and when not logged in.

Add improved account page filters

It would be more beneficial to be able to filter the results by language, and if punctuation mode was used or not.

  • Filter by mode
  • Filter by mode2
  • Filter by language
  • Filter by punctuation
  • Add a way to show what custom text was typed
  • Save selected filters to config

Performance issue in Firefox

Thanks for the nice work! From this comment:

I tried it a few times, on Firefox on a MB pro 2016, and it's stuttering / freezing quite a bit for me. I thought it might be because of the smooth cursor, but turning it off didn't help. Switching to Chrome seems to solve the issue, but still might be worth looking into!

Can't type accented characters

I'm having trouble using accented characters like á, é, í, etc in spanish. Those characters need two keys to be pressed to be registered, first the accent and then the letter. If I try to do that nothing happens, it's like those keystrokes are not been registered.
