launchpadder's Issues

Roll Call sorting was not working

When I activate the Roll Call sorting, the app name I placed in "These names come first" box was not placed in the top position. Next I tried disabling the Apple, Type, and Alphabet options but still, the app I named was not placed in the first position.

English localization

Hi all,
I have installed LaunchPadder 1.4 on my Mac running macOS 13.
The app works perfectly, but the user interface is in Chinese.
How to get English UI ?

Best regards
Mathieu Lavant

Apps created with Automator incorrectly recognized as Apple apps

I used this thread to create LibreOffice app icons for Writer, Calc, etc. with Automator, moved them in Applications directory, then executed LaunchPadder to sort all with default config (Apple, Type and Alphabetical enabled) and noted that these new icons are located with Apple apps.

Example of Automator app content:

open -n -a /Applications/LibreOffice.app/Contents/MacOS/soffice --args --writer

Categories into Folders

Feature Request:
It would be great if this tool would allow folders to be automatically created from categories.

I understand that could lead to conflicts with which category gets represented for an app with 2 or more but then you could just pull the list of categories and let us prioritize them and which ever one comes first is the folder it would be placed in.

Error message is not clear

The current version (v1.3) of the interface error feedback is very vague, and some important information is not disclosed in the interface, which will cause misunderstandings.

Better error message hints will be provided in the next version.

Language Support

Hi! Love the app, but I thought about you adding the possibility for other people to translate the application through you open sourcing it. Might want to do that? I'd love to make a pull request to help out with that.

Greets

Support customized layout?

I used a script to change the number of rows and columns:

defaults write com.apple.dock springboard-columns -int ColNum;
defaults write com.apple.dock springboard-rows -int RowNum

Then if I use the app to sort icons, the page will not be full filled.

Run in script or run periodically

It appears the app only sorts when you click the sort button with the app running.

Is there a command to run in a script to run the app and sort? Alternately, are there plans to have it run as a background service and sort on a schedule?

Problem with alphabetic order when using capitals

I created a "LibreOffice" folder, enabled "Apple" and "Alphabet" sorting ("Type" disabled) and "LibreOffice" appears before app icons instead of in the L's. When replacing "LibreOffice" by "libreOffice" the location is good. There seems to be a problem with capitals.

Q: clarification on how it sorts on existing organized apps/folders

Question: does LaunchPadder honor an existing layout of folders or does it trash everything and start anew based on the rules?

I ask b/c I have my apps organized in folders and on the main LaunchPad screen, but I have a lot of apps in some folders and just want the apps in the existing folders sorted alphabetically. This app looks great, but before I click SORT, I need to know if I'll loose the work I've already done organizing my LaunchPad.

Also, does it save the existing layout and can one revert a sort if they don't like the results?

Also, once the rules are configured, is sorting dynamic/on-the-fly as new apps are installed/added, or is it static and one has to open LaunchPadder and manually SORT again to keep it organized.

Can you add some screen shots to show a before/after with several of the settings?
Thank you for this neat tool!

Folder Support

If Launch Padder could sort apps into different folders, that will be great. Just like the last page of iOS.

Support for separate windows

It would be lovely if you could set it to put a page break, so to speak, between apple and non-apple apps. That is, all the apple apps are displayed in order, and then another page over the sorted non-apple apps begin. It's a bit confusing to see the end of the alphabet for apple apps displayed right next to the beginning of the alphabet for non-apple apps.

If there's a way to do this already, apologies. Thanks for the great app :)
