When writing extreme long articles, the first sight of a page will be filled by toc section, which is not pleasant. If it is possible to put toc section to ads section's current location, that will be nice
For a very long article (which you have to scroll several pages to the end), it is very helpful if we could add a feature "back to top" whether as button or href near subtitle.
PS: Very nice work for skinny-bones-jekyll and continuous refinement, I really enjoy this template.
I've used some tile
s on a page (same as in the home
example on gh-pages
), and would now like to add untiled, normal-width content below the tiles.
I expected that just closing the div with </div><!-- /.tiles -->
would do the trick, but it's not.
I apologise in advance if this is an ignorant question, lacking the necessary CSS knowledge.
Here's the page (never mind the content)

I enjoy teaching tremendously — and for selfish reasons, too:
I've noticed that I only *really* understood a subject (or someone else's understanding of it) if I have taught a class on it.
I like it:

Is there any way to delete left panel in Skinny Bones?
For some reason the initial scrolling of a page looks like it's targeting the slideout menu when using an iphone 4s (latest os). Basically you see you are scrolling an invisible area (the scrollbars can be seen on the side).
A demonstration is available at http://open-learning.org when visiting using a 4s. Not sure if it only targets 4s or just the same screen size.
Unable to reproduce on an iphone 6.
First of all I would like to congratulate the work.
Thank you for providing your layout with such license, permit and other professionals may have their website with a more visually pleasing, to me this is very valuable, as they do not command anything CSS and HTML.
I hope to contribute to your layout, but as I am struggling to use the CSS, especially with the framework you use, it is very new to me.
I am trying to insert a banner ad on pages that are of type file, but to make such insertion needed to be more vertical, and the layout is having problems, see figure below.
The gray block that contains the advertisement is not in the correct size, and not as the domain nor the CSS framework used, I have many difficulties to adjust it.
The code I'm using are the links:

Hi MIchael,
Nice templates! I just have a few questions on how to use them properly the first of which is getting the modified date to show up properly. I have this "article" md file at "/by-laws/"

I'm very new to Jekyll but have everything set up and working locally on my Windows machine. However, when I try to push to my GitHub user site, I'm getting a 404 page and an email that there was a generic build error. Should this theme work with the user sites or just the project sites? Is there something I might need to change in the config? My email address is verified, and I didn't see anything else on the GitHub troubleshooting page that seemed relevant. Can you help? Thanks very much!
I really like the subtle animations throughout the theme.
I'd like to disable the animation on page open, though.
Is there an elegant simple way to disable this?

The page build failed with the following error:

Let me know how to get at it and fix it or do you know what could cause this? Trying to push it to GitHub pages and it is throwing this error.

It's my first time using Jekyll (very nice theme, btw!) so maybe I'm just missing something, but is there support for localization? I did find some things I could change manually, but there must be a way for me to change dates and such automatically?
Additionally, would you consider allowing pages/posts in multiple languages?
Hi all,
I am new to Jekyll + Skinny Bones and I would like to ask how do I add Google Analytics tracking to my website?
Thank you very much.
The top-menu navigation items are hidden on small screens (mobile phone width). This appears to be design and part of the responsive setup, but for the life of me, I cannot find the SASS logic that applies the media queries to do it.
I'd like to have the navigation present at all times (in place of the sliding navigation).
I'm not sure what is going on here, everything worked fine back in December. I'm a complete beginner in Ruby packaging, so I wondered if you could lend me a hand. I kept getting errors so I uninstalled all my gems and then followed the suggested installation procedure (using bundler). If I then try to do something like octopress new post "asdf"
, I get:
octopress 3.0.0.rc.34 | Error: undefined method `require_from_bundler' for Jekyll::PluginManager:Class
If I try doing gem install jekyll
, it installs a newer version (2.5.3 currently) than specified, so then I get different errors:
vperic@vperic-laptop:~/devel/ossicz-sajt> octopress new post "asdf"

from /usr/bin/octopress:23:in `<main>'
I assume this is because I'm running a newer Jekyll than your site specifies. Still, I reproduce the first error by running eg. bundle exec octopress new post "asdf"
.
I realize that using octopress is not really obligatory, I just remember it as a neat tool, plus I can't be sure that something else isn't broken (though currently building and serving the site works fine).
Thanks in advance!
I ran a Google Page Speed run on https://mmistakes.github.io/skinny-bones-jekyll/
Overall very good results (88/100 on mobile and 94/100 on desktop).
One suggestion Google has is to "Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS in above-the-fold content".
One of the great things about Jekyll is it rearranges files.
How about including the main.css (62,958 bytes) into the index.html automagically?
See https://developers.google.com/speed/docs/insights/OptimizeCSSDelivery
PS - this is the approach Google AMP is requesting as well.
Hi
A simple question. I want to add a specific image for the blog posts and added therefore a “teaser:” in the front matter. Like this:
layout: article
title: "At the School"
categories: articles
modified: 2015-08-27T11:57:41-04:00
tags: [sample]
comments: false
ads: false
teaser: nssr.jpg

The default teaser is appearing though. Any ideas what is wrong?
Using the following in _base.scss causes lines of code to be put all on one line…

Hi! first of all i would like to thank you for this amazing template! (oh, and sorry for my poor english)
I was trying some stuff with the {% include post-grid.html %}
function, and i found out that with the post limit paramater set to 4 the impagination get stuck with a maxium three column layout for row
Example:
{% for post in site.posts limit:4 %}
{% include post-grid.html %}
{% endfor %}
in the homepage -> http://xabacadabra.github.io/ you'll see that after the third column, the fourth directly start a new line down even if there isn't lack of space
Hi Michael, thanks for this; it's awesome. One thing I often want to do is wrap text around a partial-width image. I don't see a demo-ed way to do this, so I've been doing something like this:
<img align="left" style="width:35%;height:35%;margin:20px 30px" ... >
Using a relative size, images get too small on mobile, but with an absolute width they get too big and align weird. Is there a better way to do this? Thanks much.
According to this article, GH Pages now supports Jekyll 3. Maybe make the jekyll3 branch to master now?
Dear,
Could you consider implementing this plugin, please?

I did it on my project and worked like a charm!
Hello,
I am trying to run this theme in order to use it for my site. After downloading and running bundle install

Hello. The http://mmistakes.github.io/skinny-bones-jekyll/getting-started/ page has a Scaffolding section that shows a home.html layout, but it doesn't existing in the download or on github. Could you please include it (unless it has been depreciated).
I'm just getting started with Jekyll and Skinny-Bones and it would hep enormously helpful if there were some example page & article sources. For example, the source for Skinny-Bones site or just the Sample Articles would be really helpful.
Thanks!
After following the instructions (bundle install), any attempt to run Jekyll, with/without arguments, other Ruby versions, etc..., always crashes.
For example:
jekyll help

Everything else seems OK:
bundle check

Removing the Gemfile (and Gemfile.lock) solves the problem
Michael, I'm sorry to have to bother you with this, but I can't get teaser images to show up right in Twitter or Facebook. I notice the sharing links don't show up at all on the skinny-bones demo site. On mine Twitter Cards will appear, but with either the default site teaser or Twitter's no-image image, and the default shows up on Facebook. It's working fine at mademistakes.com, and _includes/open-graph.html is the same there, and the issue isn't in _includes/share-this.html as far as I can tell. Any ideas?

I am actually a noobie to the whole Jekyll area,and new to programming in general so bare with me.
I am trying to find the home layout that it is supposed(according to the index at your site) to exist but i can't find it. I want a homepage like (http://mmistakes.github.io/skinny-bones-jekyll/) in the original site and not an archive as a homepage, is that doable?
Thank you for your time
Hi!
I'm new to jekyll and I'm trying to use this template. Well, I'm using it but I want to use pagination, but I don't know how to use it.
I have put this:
paginate: 12
paginate_path: "/page:num/"
On _config.yml file but I always receive the warning Pagination: Pagination is enabled, but I couldn't find an index.html page to use as the pagination template. Skipping pagination
.
I saw that there is a file called "pagination.html". How should I use it with the archive template?
Thanks :)
Installed dependencies, downloaded the file, etc but using rake to switch themes is not working. Any suggestions?
Running on Windows 8.1
The site comes up but layout is strange and I have not been able to debug.
I loaded a welcome Jekyll post but it is not aligned. Layout was change from post to default
but there must be something else needed in the header.
I read the getting started site but still got stuck.
How do I change the items marked below? I would like to modify the icons and behavior.
I do not want caps forced in the title.

Hello,

I use the following display code;

and this is the post...
<div class="col-xs-12 col-md-4 post" itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/Article">

I want to show 6 at a time and then some basic bootstrap style pagination.
Can anyone help?

Hello,
Foremost thank you for the nice theme you provided for usage with such a convenient license!
I am new to jekyll, having come from a fairly recent HTML/CSS/JS background, as well as ASP NET MVC and Angular. I liked this theme for my learning and own usage (if succeed in going through the learning curve)
I've just come across a problem. Below the explanation of my process:
I recently installed ruby, rubygems, and jekyll in a Windows 8.1 (x64) box, ran jekyll, created a new website from scratch, and everything went just fine.
Then I found your theme, I cloned it locally to my box, and started tinkering with it.
My first problem was that I installed bundler and the theme's dependencies globally, and most of the gems I had from previous jekyll installation got duplicated to a lesser version. Could not get the jekyll serve command to work and first thought about the duality in versions for some gems.
I reasoned that uninstalling all dependencies installed with bundler, repairing the latest jekyll I had - which is version 2.5.3 at present - and installing dependencies by project would fix the issue. I followed this stackoverflow answer on bundler to install bundler's dependencies by project instead (not globally).
So for this jekyll theme I installed all gem dependencies using bundler, on the vendor\bundle folder.
It added all of them, including jekyll 2.4.0.
The problem was not fixed, there are two parts to it:
First, when executing jekyll serve
, there is an exception displayed, related to mercenary gem (below the stack trace). You will notice is trying to use the global jekyll 2.5.3 gem:

Here is the image of the above:
I already have posts files hosted on the theme, but they do not get referenced for serving the site.
I think this may not be a theme issue, but surely wanted to let know in order to get more light into this issue, and even get a resolution for this.
Thanks for your help in advance!

My site is www.nolanhu.com
For some reason in the mobile version, the main image doesn't shrink itself. I only see a part of the image instead of the whole image.
Also, I have to run "bundle exec jekyll build" & "bundle exec jekyll serve" everytime for it to work. What's the solution to that issue?
FYI, the new Disqus 'Engage' code has 1 requisite parameter and 2 optional ones. If you update the script in comments.html, you might need to change the variables involved. I just replaced it all with code as provided by disqus and wrapped it in {% if page.comments %}
liquid and it's working fine on two different sites.
sitename.disqus.com is something you can get from your Disqus settings
page_url and page_identifier I'm not sure about - perhaps something auto-generated by liquid?

Dear,
I wasn't getting the external links to work on the toc section (responsive menu) so I had to fix it using jQuery:
$("a[href='https://username.github.iohttps://google.com']").attr('href', 'https://google.com');
I hope it help someone. Thank you so much for all your work, it is amazing!
I love the (custom) 404 pages in your other themes, wondering how hard it would be to add that here ...
I tried making a simple post: _posts/2015-08-02-giraffe.md and it is not showing up on my page (emilydonovan.github.io). All I put in the YAML front matter is the layout and title. That is the only file I have added/changed so far so I'm confused as to why it's not showing on the up.
Want to improve the theme with this slider. http://davidollerhead.com/blog/2013/08/06/lets-build-a-carousel.html what files/code do i need to change?
I am testing the jekyll platform for the first time and was looking for "_posts" to add/edit my post using this theme, and couldnt find it yet, am I missing something here?

Turns out the latest merge request adding French encoding has an extra couple spaces in the yaml at line 33. I'll submit a merge request shortly with the fix.
I have a site based on an older version of Skinny Bones, but I didn't see anything in the commit log that would relate to this, so I'm guessing this issue would also happen on the current version.
One of my headings <h2>
on the front page of my site is oddly centered when the site is loaded with Chrome (or Chromium), but works perfectly with Firefox. The browser-specific css goes way over my head, so I don't know where to look for solutions. The problem persists regardless of whether I build my site locally or on gh-pages.
You can see the problem by visiting http://jonne.arjoranta.fi/ with Chrome. Look for the second heading, Role-Playing.
