I may have the same problem...
Running Ubuntu base OS 12.04 64bit....
Test with Protractor only Success
Test using Gulp-protractor error throws up....
Also I tested Gulp-protrator without running webdriver-manager the same error throws up

Solved: forgetting to install openjdk-7-jdk on Ubuntu gives the very same error
from gulp-protractor.
