arcade-1942_mister's Issues

02-21-19 release: HORZ + Screen flip options used together break the game (invisible bullets)

When using screen flip (along with HORZ option) in the current public release of the 1942 core, random enemy bullets are invisible, resulting in random deaths, and player shots when obtaining the powerup that gives you two smaller ships on either side of the main ship, are invisible as well.

The affected player and enemy shots still exist even though not visible, and you can damage enemies with your invisible shots as well as take damage from enemy invisible shots.

Confirmed this does not happen when using VERT display option, whether screen flip is on or not.
Confirmed this does not happen when using HORZ display option, so long as screen flip is OFF.

EDIT: to test this, simply get to stage 3 and the first powerup gives you the additional side ships. You will likely know before this point because of random deaths though.

This also brings the concern of standardization for rotation on applicable cores. I believe all cores that support rotation should do so with the standard of 90 degree counter-clockwise rotation, as every monitor that supports rotation through its base that I have used (5+), have done so by rotating the monitor clockwise.

They pretty much never support rotation in the opposite direction, unless using a custom/aftermarket mount for the display.

All other arcade cores that I have tried correctly rotate in this way, and I believe it should be standardized for MiSTer to facilitate this common-hardware scenario. Using a screen flip hack on top of this is completely unnecessary and just adds another point of complication and potential failure, I believe.
