New Github Checks API

The new additions of Github Checks gives the potential for screenshot processes to be initiated by users on the Github UI. For example if someone wanted to re-run the screenshots for a particular pull request, they could trigger that process from the Github UI.

In addition the Status of the Check has more variety of options rather than just “Failed”, “Success”, and “In Progress” adding “Action required”, “Timed out”, “Canceled”, and “Neutral”.

Not sure if this is the most applicable for the screenshot app, but the particular Check can have “annotations” which highlight specific lines of code in the target repo and give text about that span of code. For example if someone has improperly formatted JSON files to define their screenshot states. That file can be highlighted in an annotation and the user can be told to fix this file to be parseable.

You can also add images to be displayed in the Github Check. This is really interesting because they didn’t specify a limit to how many images can be included nor are there any pictures that example how these images are presented on the Github UI. The possibilities of images we can include to the Check UI is intrguing…
