id-multipageimporter's Issues

Add Illustrator File Support

It would be great to add the following capabilities:

  1. Edit script to accept Adobe Illustrator files (multi-artboard). With option to change layer visibility & which artboards (page numbers) to be imported.
  2. Added bonus would be to be able to select multiple files for import at once (this would probably not work with layer / page option as each file would be different).

Problem scaling

Hi, I'm experiencing a problem with importing a pdf into InDesign CC21 that's new to me. Left and right page changes scale when placed in ID when I choose anything other than "fit to page" or scale 100%. If I put 93%, left page changes to 94,etc and right page is 93%. This occurs when I change the offset. What could have happened? I've been using it for a few years now, with lots of different positions, fits and offsets and this is the first time I've ever had any issues. Any help appreciated. Thanks, /Anna

Suggestion - bleed on PDF on all 4sides

Love the script!
One feature I'd like to see:
When I have PDF file submitted with bleed on all 4 sides and place it center relative to spine by .125" (my bleed margin), they place perfectly but they overlap in the middle, and I need to go and "clean up" the areas they overlap to make sure cross over images look correct.
Is there a way to run the script and crop the pages automatically so I don't have to manually do this? See attached screen cap.

Thanks again for the great script

var myPageName

I saw an addition someone named DMD add to the script:
'Start placing on Doc page' automatically pulls the page you are currently on
I would appreciate it if you could add it in the next version

var myPageName = app.activeWindow.activePage.name

// Doc start page dLog.pan1.add('statictext', [10,94,190,109], "Start Placing on Doc Page:"); dLog.docStartPG = dLog.pan1.add('edittext', [10,114,70,137], myPageName); dLog.docStartPG.onChange = docStartPGValidator;

THANKS!

Multiple File Import

Add support for multiple file selection when Importing. Functionality for placing files sequentially would be needed (ie: alphabetical order - default, or alternatively order selected).

Suggestiion: Add option to fit content of PDF (not frame) to margins proportionally

I would love to see an option to place a multi-page PDF that can be scaled and placed on a page so that the content is maximized proportionally and placed on the paged based on the margins.

This would be super helpful when printing a book and needing to allow an adequate margin on the left edge for binding.

Currently, it appears that the script is only able to scale the PDFs based on the PDF frame and not the content, resulting in much smaller prints and graphics that do not fill up the margin area.

An option to center horizontally and vertically to page margins would be awesome.

Reset InDesign Prefs not working

After using the import script, the selected "crop type" is set as the new preference for the complete app. Placing from menu "File" > "Place" the last selected setting from the script is used.

I tried removing all parts that seem to be connected to the prefs, but this did not change anything, the result was the same. But I am no expert in scripting. Maybe you could help me to solve this?

Indesign 2021 Bug

I am trying to transcribe a book, but when using the import script it freezes at 83% i use Adobe Indesign 2021 v16.3.
Fix this please and check the spelling.

Indefinite loading circle after selecting PDF

Issue with importing certain PDFs similar to another issue posted by shmeets.

PDF files will open fine and imports correctly with Place function and the standard PlaceMultiplePDF script.
Most certainly something wrong with type of PDF files, as if I use 'save as' in acrobat the PDFs will then import fine.
My issue is that I recieve a lot of PDFs to import and roughly half will cause the program to freeze.

Example of error causing PDF can be found below:
40 S355 J2+N.pdf

Windows 10 & 11
Indesign 19.0.1 x64

PDF with Trim, Art, Bleed page boxes or Media fails to import with error "[PDF]" doesn't contain [Page Box] crop type

Macbook Pro, M1 Max, Monterey, InDesign 16.4

When trying to import a PDF that was freshly exported from an InDesign file that contains all page boxes, the error "[PDF]" doesn't contain [Page Box] crop type appears and script doesn't run. Even selecting "Media" fails to import with the same message.

This is happening to multiple PDFs 2GB or larger with CMYK art. Is there a size limit for this script?

Thanks!

Idea / Question

Is it possible that this will work with IDML as well as INDD? IDML would be so useful.

Can't get script to work

I have tried on 2 computers, in 2019 and 2021 versions. I have placed the script in the program files scripts location as well as in the users scripts location as recommended in a previous comment. It asks me for the pdf, I select it and then it has that blue circle twirling infinitely... any suggestions?

Placing PDF on Even or Odds rather than All Pages.

Hello! Is there any way to have the script only apply to evens or odds rather than all pages? I need to place my PDF onto all even pages and can't figure out the code to make this happen nor a way to do such! Thanks!

Fit to Margins

Love this, it is super helpful.

However, I was pulling in 370 pages of web pdfs and wanted to all fit within 1" margins not just the page. I now have to hand fit all these pages, which is a huge drag.

Inserting pages for placed file

Love this script. Thank you very much! The one thing I would love to see is to have it insert new pages to place the document on starting with the page you indicate. The problem I am having is if I am placing a document in the middle of an existing document, it places the imported pages on top of existing items.
So if I have a 10-page document and I want to place a 6-page document into it beginning on page 4, the script would add pages between the original pages 4 and 5 and the document would now be a total of 16 pages.

right binding not working

when I add a pdf to a InDesign project that is "right binding" it puts both pages the right and the left one on top of each other

Does not run in ID 2019 14.0.2

Love this script! Thank you so much for creating it! Glad I kept my ID 2017 version because it runs fine there, but for some reason it doesn't want to run in 2019. Thanks again!

MultiPageImporter error 11265

Firstly thanks for this great script!
Few days ago I bought a new PC, installed latest version of InDesign and tryed to import multipage PDF into my project but had a problemm: there is a error of Script when I am trying to set scale value less than 33%. It is very strange because on previous PC i had no such a problems. I tryed different PDF`s and the same.

Can you help?

Placing more then one imported page per new document page.

First off, thanks a lot for maintaining the script!!

Now the issue:
I have to import large Indesign documents into a new document, where the new document should have 4 A6 pages per A4 page.
So, I would like to have a script to place 4 (reduced) A4 pages per A4 page before generating a new page.
So there would have to be like a mini template where the number of pages and location/scale of the pages could be defined (per new page)... Is souch a thing even possible?

Cheers!
Daniel

Error while importing PDF

Trying to import a PDF always results with this error:

"***.pdf" doesn't contain a "All Layers Bounding Box" crop type: Please try again by selecting a different crop type or open
the PDF in Acrobat and perform a "Save As..." command.

Than this:

JavaScript Error 89867 The default engine 'main' cannot be deleted. Line: 589

I think it has something to do with Crop margins not being defined in the PDF. Since I'm stuck with this particular PDF I'm hoping for a solution.
