PL-600: Microsoft Power Platform Solution Architect

What are we doing?

  • To support this course, we will need to make frequent updates to the course content to keep it current with the Power Platform services used in the course. We are publishing the lab instructions and lab files on GitHub to allow for open contributions between the course authors and MCTs to keep the content current with changes in the Power Platform.

  • We hope that this brings a sense of collaboration to the labs like we've never had before - when the Power Platform changes and you find it first during a live delivery, go ahead and make an enhancement right in the lab source. Help your fellow MCTs.

How should I use these files relative to the released Microsoft Learn Instructor Led Training files?

  • The Trainer prep guide and PowerPoint slide decks are still going to be your primary source for teaching the course content.

  • These files on GitHub are designed to be used in conjunction with the course, but are in GitHub as a central repository so MCTs and course authors can have a shared source for the latest lab, demo, and exercise files.

  • It will be recommended that for every delivery, trainers check GitHub for any changes that may have been made to support the latest Power Platform services, and get the latest files for their delivery.

What about changes to the course contents?

  • Course content is on Microsoft Learn and may be updated outside of the course release schedule.

How do I contribute?

  • Anyone can submit a pull request to the code or content in the GitHub repro, Microsoft, and the course author will triage and include content and lab changes as needed.

  • You can submit bugs, changes, improvement and ideas. Found a new feature before we have? Submit a new demo!

Notes

Classroom Materials

It is strongly recommended that MCTs and Partners access these materials and in turn, provide them separately to students. Pointing students directly to GitHub to access Lab steps as part of an ongoing class will require them to access yet another UI as part of the course, contributing to a confusing experience for the student. An explanation to the student regarding why they are receiving separate Lab instructions can highlight the nature of an always-changing cloud-based interface and platform. Microsoft Learning support for accessing files on GitHub and support for navigation of the GitHub site is limited to MCTs teaching this course only.

pl-600-microsoft-power-platform-solution-architect's Issues

Labfiles downloads to C:\labfiles and not the F:\allfiles drive

Module: 00

Lab/Demo: 00

Task: 00

Step: 00

Description of issue

Labfiles downloads to C:\labfiles and not the F:\allfiles drive

Repro steps:

  1. click Download Lab Files to Desktop
  2. open File Explore to F: allfiles drive and it is empty
  3. files are downloaded to c:\labfiles which is not standard to other MOC labs

Design from Requirements is too Dynamics 365 focussed

Learning Path: 2

Lab: 2

Description of issue

The lab is too focussed on Dynamics 365 and should reflect that the course and exam are now more Power Platform focussed

Suggest that the requirements are changed to be met by Power Platform components

Lab cannot be finished

Add a Power Apps Trial / Create a Production environment for Instructor

Description of issue

Lab is unable to be completed as the trial apps cannot be obtained due to the tenants assigned by the ALH.

General comments about the Jan 2023 release of this course

I delivered this course last week. I really do not believe it has improved much since the last time I delivered in the fall of 2022.

  • over 486 slides, without any workshops or labs that 27 slides per hour for an 18 hour course, add in 1 hour per day of workshop time and you are at 32 slides per hour
  • the course pre-requisites recommend that the Attendee have a good functional and technical grasp of the PowerPlatform and its related technologies however the course reviews all of the technologies the way the PL-900 does
  • there are spelling mistakes on a number of slides and one even has "The red fox jumped over the brown fence"!
  • The Application Lifecycle Management lab is still referred to in the course notes but this lab has been removed from what I understand and was not available on the Skillable LODS hosting provider.
  • there needs to be a much better and more coherent and followable "scenario" with tools and templates to collect and document the solution architecture, what is provided is simply not enough and the idea of letting everyone just apply their own approach or methodology, while noble, is confusing - we should a clear example scenario with all of the templates completed including diagrams so that the Attendee can walk through a process and compare their solution to the real final solution

In my view, the course is more of a wide-ranging marketing review of all of the great Power Platform technologies with slides thrown in about what a Solution Architect should consider as opposed to walking the attendees through a structured architecture process so they participate in its development to arrive at a final solution. I provided a sample scenario that we all used and I provided them with the same templates and tools I use as some of them had never done architecture before and had no corporate frameworks, methodologies, or processes for creating solutions.

Query for Lab hosting providers' content and implementation

Hi There,
This whole lab is conceptual with no steps to perform. What do you think about lab hosting providers/partners who provide proper demonstration steps to users?
Do you suggest lab hosters to provide the same content to users and have instructors in class to help students make implementation based on the given scenarios and use cases in the instructions? Or anything else.

Please let me know ASAP.

Course Content is not same as per course structure

hello,
I checked the trainer files and ppt files for this course on LDC. Those have a different set of labs and topics(please see the screenshot).
However, in this repository, there are only Mod 2 and 3. Isn't this repository upto date with Microsoft course content?

Module 1 Blocker

Module: 01

Lab/Demo: Setup

Exercise: 01

Task: 01

Step: 07

Description of issue

Hello, our tester has run into a blocker during his review. Below are his notes and a screenshot of his results while running this step.

Unrecognized PowerShell command. Environments cannot be created for future use in the module, qualifying the issue as a blocker.

I believe the PowerShell command may have been superseded. However, I am not fully sure.

Are there alternative options?
