Research:

• Does lazy query make the use of separate threads for query execution obsolete, because the CancellationToken can be checked regularly while iterating over the result? Does this allow the extension to be used in the web?

Use relative paths by default so that folders with input files and notebook can be shared. Add user setting to change behavior.

There is currently no JSONPath standard (wip). Engines with different syntax and behaviour exist.

Provide the option to select different JSONPath engines. The user could change the prefered engine in the settings.json (global, workspace) or maybe even on a per file/cell basis.

Maybe provide even some sort of auto selection based on the provided query.

So I am trying to analyze hundreds of json files that are place in single directory. Is it possible to provide feature that will read many json files at once instead running notebook on a single file?

I use jsonpath in my vscode extensions as well (https://github.com/mbehr1/dlt-logs and https://github.com/mbehr1/fishbone).

It would be nice if you/we could extract the JSONPath language support into a standalone extension so that we can simply include it.

(I'm currently adding a very basic support copy+pasted from your language config/grammar to my notebook support, see here mbehr1/fishbone#34 )

Syntax highlighting is currently very basic.

Consider opening the walkthrough automatically after installation.

$.* usually returns all objects
$.*~ should return only first children key names (not values).
$.data.*~ would return all children key names under data.
$..~ would return all second level key names.

jsonpath.com has this implemented, you can test.

With this operation it is easier to analyse data in json.
