There needs to be an alternative to curl | tar for windows installations.

It can be difficult to run these notebooks outside of an already-provisioned server, and binder doesn't seem to be working well. It might be best to just serve the data files somewhere and have the notebooks pull them down directly rather than using a separate script to provision a local folder.

Students are encountering this error in notebook 1:

It appears to be related to a missing package, but reports are that a pip install of jupyter-matplotlib doesn't fix it.
