An issue in the calculation of each OR in Power analyses

Hi Shea J. Andrews,

I read with great interest the recent article on Neurobiology of Aging by you, and would like to congratulate the authors for this landmark study.

There is a small question for OR calculations in the power analyses.

In the published article, given a sample size of 63,926 with the proportion of cases equal to 0.34, this study was adequately powered to detect an OR of any AD of 1.1 for TNF expression, 1.19 for TNF-a levels, and 1.055 for RA.

The OR value in Power analysis was defined as true odds ratio of the outcome variable per standard deviation of the exposure variable.

How would you acquire an Odds ratio of outcome per standard deviation of exposure (an OR of 1.1 for TNF expression, 1.19 for TNF-a levels, and 1.055 for RA) ?

Can you explain the detailed method for calculating the OR value in Power analysis?

Thank you,

Qi Jiang
